Job summary

Sparx Engineering is seeking aMechanical Design Engineer to develop electro-mechanical systems, collaborating with software, electrical, and mechanical teams. You’ll prototype, test, and produce production-ready designs while embracing hands-on fabrication and rapid iteration.

Ideal candidates hold a degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering with 3+ years of post-graduate experience and are proficient in SOLIDWORKS, GD&T, and CFD/FEA tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 3+ years of professional post-graduate experience in mechanical design.
  • Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS and technical drawing including GD&T.
  • Familiarity with CFD and FEA tools.
  • Knowledge of ANSI, UL HazLoc, FDA, and MIL-SPEC standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed mechanical designs using SOLIDWORKS.
  • Design components for 3D printing, CNC machining, and injection molding.
  • Create integrated electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Produce and review manufacturing and assembly documentation.
  • Assist with fabrication using 3D printing, CNC machining, and vacuum forming.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools for metal and woodwork.
  • Build and test prototypes of complex systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve design issues.
  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate with electrical and software engineers.

Job description

WE ARE SEEKING a talented and versatile Mechanical Design Engineer with the experience and expertise to design complex electro-mechanical systems. You’ll work closely with cross-disciplinary teams—software, electrical, and mechanical—to develop prototypes and production-ready designs. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on engineering, rapid iteration, and working on diverse projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs using SOLIDWORKS
  • Design components for 3D printing, CNC machining, and injection molding

This position requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering (or a closely related field). Experience in the following areas is also preferred:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or related field)
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional, post-graduate experience in mechanical design or related engineering roles
  • Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS and technical drawing (including GD&T)
  • Familiarity with CFD and FEA tools
  • Knowledge of standards such as ANSI, UL (HazLoc), FDA, and MIL-SPEC
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience working with suppliers and fabricators
  • Hands-on experience with 3D printing and CNC machining
  • Basic understanding of electronics and troubleshooting
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Bonus: Experience with software development
