Rondo Energy in Alameda, CA is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of ceramic, refractory, steel, and insulation assemblies for high‑temperature systems.

You will drive concepts to production, applying FEA, GD&T, CAD, and PLM in a fast, hands‑on environment, with 3–5 years of experience and strong collaboration with electrical and controls teams.

Formación

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 3–5 years of mechanical design experience from concept to production.
• Proficiency in FEA and 1D thermal analysis; CFD experience a plus.
• Strong fundamentals in GD&T and tolerance stack‑ups.
• Experience with high‑temperature materials and thermal‑mechanical systems.

Responsabilidades

• Design components, assemblies, and systems using high-temperature materials up to 1500°C.
• Perform FEA and 1D thermal/CFD analyses and support FMEA.
• Lead rapid prototyping and test‑learn cycles.
• Apply GD&T and tolerance stack‑ups to critical features.
• Integrate high‑temperature sensors and cabling with electrical/controls teams.
• Use SolidWorks and PLM for design documentation.
• Prepare subsystem requirements and supplier documents.
• Lead design reviews and cross‑functional progress reporting.

We are looking for a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. This role involves leading the design and development of ceramic, refractory, steel, and insulation assemblies, as well as the mechanical integration of instrumentation and cable routing into the system. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with hands‑on experience bringing complex mechanical designs from concept to production.

What You'll Do

• Design components, assemblies, and systems — including ceramic, refractory, steel, and insulation parts — that are cycled and maintained at high temperatures up to 1500°C
• Conduct FEA and 1D thermal and fluid‑flow analysis to confirm mechanical performance and correlate against test data; contribute to FMEA activities to identify and mitigate failure risks
• Drive rapid prototyping and fast build‑test‑learn iteration cycles to quickly validate designs and accelerate maturity
• Apply GD&T principles and tolerance stack‑up analysis to critical features
• Specify and mechanically integrate high‑temperature measurement devices and other sensors into the assembly — including mounting, thermal/electrical isolation, and cable routing — in collaboration with electrical and controls engineers
• Utilize CAD and PLM software (SolidWorks preferred) for design, documentation, and configuration control
• Formulate subsystem requirements and prepare documentation for external suppliers and stakeholders
• Lead and participate in design reviews, schedule estimation, and progress reporting to cross‑functional teams

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• 3–5 years of mechanical design engineering experience, taking designs from concept through production
• Proficiency in FEA and 1D thermal analysis; CFD experience a plus
• Strong fundamentals in GD&T and tolerance stack‑ups
• Design experience with high‑temperature materials and thermal‑mechanical systems strongly preferred
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Bonus Points!

• Hands‑on instrumentation, cable/harness design experience
• Experience in a construction environment

This role is required to be on-site at our Alameda Headquarters with up to 10% travel to project sites. The estimated annual salary range for this role in the San Francisco Bay Area is $140,000 - $160,000 and it would be eligible for Rondo's excellent benefits, plus additional compensation in the form of equity. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates' diverse sets of skill levels and experience.
