We are seeking a Mechanical Design Data Specialist to support an innovative AI initiative focused on automating and improving engineering design processes.
This role is ideal for a mechanical engineer with strong experience in 3D CAD, mechanical design, simulation, and engineering data who is interested in applying that expertise to the development of next-generation AI models.
Rather than creating manufacturing designs directly, you will work with existing mechanical design data and 3D CAD models—reviewing, interpreting, annotating, evaluating, and generating engineering data that can be used to train and improve AI systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze mechanical engineering data, including 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and simulation data.
- Interpret engineering intent, design decisions, constraints, and changes within mechanical designs.
- Review and annotate CAD data to help define how mechanical engineering knowledge can be represented for AI applications.
- Analyze design iterations and document differences between versions, including the engineering rationale behind design changes.
- Work with CAD formats and platforms such as NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, and related engineering systems.
- Review and evaluate simulation data and understand how simulation results influence mechanical design decisions.
- Support the evaluation, benchmarking, augmentation, and generation of engineering datasets for AI model development.
- Develop and improve Python-based automation tools and workflows for engineering data processing and analysis.
- Collaborate with engineering and AI/data teams to establish data protocols, annotation guidelines, and structured engineering datasets.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering workflows through automation and AI-driven processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of professional mechanical design experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with 3D CAD and mechanical design in a manufacturing or product development environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, design methodologies, geometric data, and engineering drawings.
- Experience working with CAD models, assemblies, and complex mechanical geometries.
- Experience with engineering simulations such as FEA, CFD, structural, thermal, vibration, or fluid analysis.
- Proficiency with at least one major CAD platform such as NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar.
- Experience using Python for automation, data manipulation, analysis, or engineering workflows.
- Ability to understand and explain engineering design changes, tradeoffs, constraints, and rationale.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Siemens NX and/or Teamcenter.
- Experience automating CAD/CAE workflows or generating engineering datasets programmatically.
- Exposure to AI, machine learning, computer vision, or data-centric engineering applications.
- Experience creating data annotation guidelines, schemas, engineering ontologies, or structured datasets.
- Familiarity with non-text engineering data such as 3D meshes, point clouds, geometric data, or simulation/field data.
- Knowledge of NX Open, CAD APIs, Python scripting, or similar engineering automation technologies.
- Experience with geometric deep learning, graph neural networks, or other AI techniques applied to engineering data.
- Background in safety-critical engineering, cyber-physical systems, or engineering assurance.
What You’ll Do
You will bring real-world mechanical engineering expertise into an emerging AI environment—helping AI systems better understand how engineers design, evaluate, modify, and validate mechanical products.
This is an opportunity to combine traditional mechanical engineering experience with CAD/CAE, Python automation, engineering data, and AI-driven product development.
