Job summary

Alpine Metal Tech North America Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA seeks a Mechanical Design Associate Engineer to design products using AutoCAD Inventor and collaborate with US and European teams. The role involves updating legacy drawings, ensuring code compliance, and supporting fabrication through design guidance.

The candidate will coordinate with subcontractors, review bids, analyze competitors, and estimate costs. Periodic travel to sites and installations is expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Product Design and Development in steel structures and electro/mechanical systems.
• Proficient in MS-Office (Word, Excel).
• Ability to thrive in a cross-functional and cross-cultural work environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to travel; occasional travel required.

Responsibilities

• Design products using AutoCAD Inventor and consult with engineering and manufacturing teammates in the US and Europe to ensure designs are feasible.
• Update and revise legacy 2D CAD drawings.
• Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and bid/project requirements.
• Consult with fabrication teams during production, advising on design specifications and providing assistance as required.
• Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure their scope meets specifications.
• Review customer bid documents and work with sales/engineers/project personnel to help establish quotations.
• Research competitor products quarterly and collaborate with product development to improve offerings.
• Calculate cost estimates for final designs, releasing reports including labor, material, delivery and overhead costs.
• Attend meetings, including on customer sites, to provide progress reports and support subsuppliers.
• Work with Project Managers during installation and commissioning, including occasional site visits.
• Create RFQs and purchase manufactured and bought-out items.

Area of responsibility

• Design products using AutoCAD Inventor, and consult with engineering and manufacturing teammates in the US and Europe to ensure that designs are feasible
• Update / revision of legacy 2D CAD drawings
• Ensure compliance with any codes, regulations, and bid/project requirements
• Consult with fabrication teams during product manufacturing, advising them on design specifications and providing assistance when required
• Coordinate with subcontractors, including the civil portion, to ensure their scope of work meets our needed specifications
• Review customer bid documents and work with sales/engineers/project personnel/manufacturers to help establish quotations for products
• Research competitor products quarterly and collaborate with product development team to generate ideas for making our products the best ones on the market
• Calculate cost estimates for final product designs, and release reports to supervisors, incorporating costs of labor, material, delivery and overhead
• Attend meetings, including some on customer sites, to provide progress reports, answer questions, support sub suppliers, etc.
• Work closely and support Project Managers during installation and commissioning phases which include occasional site visits
• Create RFQ’s and purchasing of manufactured and bought-out items.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Product Design and Development in the area of steel structures and electro/mechanical systems.
• Proficient in MS-Office, including Word and Excel
• Ability to thrive in a cross functional and cross-cultural work environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
