The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly capable and versatile Mechanical & Corrosion Cross Function Technician to support our operations in Alden, Kansas. This role is ideal for someone with a strong mechanical background who can also contribute across multiple disciplines, including corrosion monitoring, instrumentation, and general field operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient operations across a variety of assets.
The regular work schedule for this position will be:
M-F 6:30am – 3:00 pm (OT as required)
What You'll Do
- Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain gas-fired large-bore reciprocating engines, gas compressors, standby generator engines, centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, low pressure boilers, oil coolers, air compressors, large-bank cooler fans and gear boxes, large diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipment
- Assist in full or partial large bore reciprocating engine/gas compressor overhauls, including heads, pistons, rings, liners, pins, bushings, and bearings
- Operate compressor engines and support equipment
- Perform precision measurement and alignment functions
- Analyze engine performance reports
- Read, interpret, and update drawings and schematics (P&ID and electrical)
- Assist with pipeline repairs as necessary
- Operate and maintain valves and operators
- Inspect, repair, and set regulators and relief valves
- Blow down, purge, and pressurize pipelines and/or stations
- Locate pipelines per the One Call center and visually mark subsurface pipeline infrastructure with paint and/or flag
- Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP/BlueWorx, and create routes and enter data in PCS
- Oversee and manage pipeline or utility crossings and encroachments coordinating all work around facilities with landowners, contractors, and customers
- Complete required Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company documentation
- Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, including corrective and preventive maintenance, leak repairs, and system improvements
- Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain large and small diameter valves, operators, and auxiliary equipment
- Install, commission, test, and maintain meter stations, communication systems, and other pipeline-related facilities
- Perform pipeline maintenance activities such as leak repair, right-of-way clearing and inspection, and mainline valve tie-ins.
- Patrol pipeline right-of-way and assist with leak surveys
- Operate company vehicles and equipment; CDL with Hazmat endorsement preferred for fluid handling
- Conduct periodic resistivity and potential surveys on pipelines and facilities to assess corrosive conditions and cathodic protection performance
- Check rectifiers and anode installations for operating efficiency; maintain cathodic protection equipment and RMU units
- Assist in analyzing problematic cathodic protection areas and recommend solutions
- Conduct close interval surveys (CIS) and oversee contractor-performed CIS work
- Detect and repair shorted road casings; check electrolysis bonds and perform potential surveys on protected high-pressure lines.
- Perform atmospheric corrosion mitigation, including surface preparation and coating inspections
- Conduct internal corrosion sampling (e.g., liquid sampling, coupon removal/installation)
- Assist and lead contractors during cathodic protection construction activities.
- Participate in PHMSA and other regulatory inspections
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair electronic, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment
- Diagnose and correct system malfunctions using test equipment (e.g., ohmmeters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes)
- Maintain and interpret technical documentation (e.g., blueprints, schematics, manuals)
- Use SAP/BlueWorx to complete work orders, enter job data, and manage maintenance routes
- Coordinate pipeline or utility crossings and encroachments with landowners, contractors, and customers
- Complete required DOT and company documentation
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Relevant natural gas or energy industry experience (Energy, Natural Gas or Military)
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyperson certification in a mechanical trade (e.g., Millwright, Heavy Duty Mechanic) or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in field operations, preferably in oil and gas or industrial environments.
- Familiarity with corrosion monitoring techniques and instrumentation is an asset.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field locations as required.
- NACE / AMPP certification CP1
