Job summary

Thor in New York is seeking a junior-to-mid-level Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to support NYC Health + Hospitals projects. The role offers hybrid work with site visits across NYC’s five boroughs.

You will gain hands-on experience commissioning HVAC, pumps and building systems, review drawings, and prepare tests while coordinating with contractors and engineers. Travel to project sites will be required as needed.

Qualifications

• Approximately 18 months+ of relevant engineering or commissioning experience.
• Background in mechanical building services, HVAC, MEP or commissioning.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Exposure to field testing, inspections or commissioning documentation.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites across New York City.

The Opportunity

We are supporting an established engineering consultancy working a major commissioning programme with NYC Health + Hospitals, covering hospitals, outpatient centres, renovations and new construction across New York City's five boroughs.

This is an opportunity for a junior-to-mid-level Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to gain hands-on experience across a range of healthcare facilities, working alongside experienced commissioning professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• Support commissioning and functional testing of HVAC, ventilation, chilled water, pumps and other mechanical building systems.
• Conduct site inspections and verify systems against design specifications.
• Review mechanical drawings, equipment submittals and technical documentation.
• Prepare commissioning checklists, test procedures and reports.

• Support project delivery across office-based, remote and onsite activities.
