Job description

Role purpose: To prepare accurate 3D mechanical models, 2D fabrication drawings and engineering documentation for industrial equipment, assemblies and project execution. The role supports practical, buildable designs for fabrication, production and site teams.

Reporting line: Reports to the Engineering Manager, Project Manager or Director, and works closely with fabrication, production, procurement and project execution teams.

Employment type: 1-year contract role supporting mechanical design, fabrication drawing preparation and engineering documentation for industrial projects.

Applicant profile: Open to qualified regional applicants with relevant mechanical CAD design, 3D modelling and shopfloor fabrication drawing experience.

Work location and travel: Based at the companys new India branch in Bangalore, as part of the Singapore-headquartered group. Travel is expected to be low but may occasionally include visits to the Singapore head office for meetings, training, project coordination or other business-related activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • 3D mechanical design: Create and revise 3D models, assemblies and parts using SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Autodesk Inventor or similar mechanical CAD platforms.
  • Fabrication drawings: Prepare clear and accurate 2D shopfloor fabrication drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, materials, weld details, cut lists and assembly information.
  • Manufacturing support: Coordinate with fabrication and production teams to clarify drawing details, resolve design issues and support buildability on the shopfloor.
  • Design documentation: Maintain drawing registers, revision control, bills of materials, design notes and project documentation.
  • Standards compliance: Apply relevant ANSI, ISO and other applicable mechanical engineering codes, drafting practices and industry standards.
  • Design coordination: Work with project, procurement and fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and aligned with project requirements.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on 3D mechanical design experience in an industrial, fabrication, manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • 4–5 years of experience preparing 2D shopfloor fabrication drawings for mechanical parts, assemblies, structures, equipment or fabricated systems.
  • Proficient or familiar with SolidWorks, Solid Edge and Autodesk Inventor for 3D modelling, assembly design and drawing generation.
  • Good understanding of mechanical fabrication methods, materials, welding, machining, sheet metal, structural components and assembly practices.
  • Able to read, interpret and apply relevant ISO, ASME/ANSI, AWS, ASTM, JIS, EN/DIN and customer/project-specific standards for mechanical design, fabrication drawings, welding details, materials and shopfloor documentation.
  • Able to read, interpret and produce technical drawings with appropriate dimensions, tolerances, notes and revision details.
  • Familiar with preparing, reading and interpreting P&ID drawings, general arrangement drawings and related engineering documentation for mechanical design and fabrication coordination.
  • Practical, detail-oriented and able to work independently with minimal supervision while coordinating clearly with shopfloor, project and engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in industrial equipment, fabrication, thermal boilers, reactors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, environmental systems, process equipment or project-based engineering is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of BOM preparation, drawing release processes, design-for-fabrication and basic project documentation will be useful.
Tools and Systems
  • SolidWorks, Solid Edge and Autodesk Inventor for 3D modelling and 2D drawing preparation.
  • AutoCAD or equivalent drafting tools where applicable.
  • Microsoft Excel, Teams and SharePoint for BOMs, drawing registers, coordination and document control.
  • ERP, PDM or document-control systems where used by the Company.
Success Measures for the First 3-6 Months
  • 3D models and fabrication drawings are prepared accurately and issued on time for assigned projects.
  • Shopfloor teams can fabricate and assemble based on the drawings with minimal clarification or rework.
  • Drawing revisions, BOMs and design documentation are maintained with clear version control.
  • Designs reflect relevant ANSI, ISO and applicable industry drafting and fabrication practices.
  • Effective coordination is established with engineering, procurement, fabrication and project teams.
