Job summary

Aquent is seeking a highly skilled CAD Designer to translate complex engineering concepts into precise 3D models and detailed drawings for mechanical, piping, and structural solutions. You will create and check designs to ensure accuracy, safety, and compliance across hyperscale data center modules.

The role requires mastery of CAD/BIM tools, ability to work independently, and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams to support project success and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Technical Certification in a design discipline or a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical, piping, and structural scopes of work.
• Ability to produce clear drawings and sketches to illustrate design ideas.
• Understanding of electrical systems for facilities and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide and check drawings and Bills of Material (BOM) per customer requirements.
• Prepare bulk Materials Take Offs (MTOs) and detailed BOMs.
• Ensure drawings adhere to engineering and QA/QC standards.
• Develop mechanical, piping, and structural deliverables including layouts, isometrics, and isometrics notes.
• Review vendor data and drawings for client specifications and standards.
• Assist in design data extraction and support project teams and clients.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic CAD Designer to play a pivotal role in our engineering team. In this position, you will be instrumental in transforming complex engineering concepts into precise 3D models and detailed drawings, directly contributing to the development of cutting‑edge mechanical, piping, and structural solutions. Your expertise will ensure the accuracy, reliability, and safety of designs for advanced infrastructure, including Hyperscale Data Center Modules. You will be empowered to independently create and check designs, solve technical challenges, and ensure compliance with the highest industry standards, directly impacting project success and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide and check drawings and Bills of Material (BOM) as per customer requirements.
• Prepare bulk Material Take Offs (MTOs) and detailed BOMs.
• Ensure all drawings adhere to engineering and quality assurance/quality control standards.
• Develop a comprehensive range of mechanical, piping, and structural deliverable drawings and documents, including:
  • Piping layout/general arrangements, isometrics, schedules, tie‑point/interface drawings, and insulation details.
  • Structural general arrangement drawings, weld details/notes, connection details, foundation support details.
  • Equipment mounting/support details, pipe support details.
  • Weight/Center of Gravity (COG) reports, manual valve lists.
  • HVAC ducting, instrumentation, flow diagrams, Process and Instrument Diagrams.
  • Pump alignment drawings, handrails/ladders, walkways, and stairs as per OSHA, platform, and grating detailed drawings.
• Support service personnel by simulating problems in drawings to aid in problem resolution.
• Independently handle simple Engineering Work Requests and ensure compliance with departmental Work Instructions and Engineering Standards.
• Supervise the outsourcing of engineering design work to third‑party engineering/design firms.
• Review vendor data and drawings to ensure compliance with client specifications and applicable standards.
• Generate report data from models and assist in providing necessary design information to project teams and clients.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by providing “Lessons Learned” feedback and updating tools and procedures.

Required Qualifications

Educational

Technical Certification in a design discipline or a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

Experience

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical, piping, and structural scopes of work.
• Ability to produce clear drawings and sketches to illustrate design ideas.
• Understanding of the purpose and function of electrical systems for facilities.
• General knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations, including but not limited to:
  • AHRI – Air‑Conditioning, Heating, & Refrigeration Institute
  • ANSI – American National Standards Institute
  • AWS – American Welding Society
  • IBC – International Building Code
  • MFMA – Metal Framing Manufactures Association
  • MSS – Manufactures Standardization Society (Valves and Fittings Industry)
  • OSHA – Occupational Safety and Health Administration
  • NFPA – National Fire Protection Association
• Experience working with computer‑aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software.

Technical Skills

• Mastery knowledge and proficiency in:
  • Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)
  • PDF Editor (Adobe, Foxit, or other equivalent)
  • SolidWorks (required)
  • Autodesk AutoCAD
  • Navisworks Manager / Freedom

Language

Fluency, both written and verbal, in English.
