Job summary

The Structures Company in El Segundo, CA, is seeking a Mechanical Assembly Technician to assemble, test, and inspect spacecraft components in a demanding aerospace environment.

This contract role (4 months with potential extension) requires reading blueprints, using precision tools, and coordinating with Design and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure conformance with specifications.

Candidates must be US persons, able to obtain a Secret clearance, and able to lift 20 lbs in a clean room setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 5+ years of experience with Structures Assembly, Mechanical Assembly, Electrical Assembly, or Final Assembly.
• 3+ years following written and verbal work instructions.
• 3+ years working with blueprints, specifications, assembly drawings, and SOPs.
• 3+ years setting and using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).
• 3+ years working with materials such as adhesives, composites, epoxy, fabrics, honeycomb core, laminates, plastics, or resins.
• 3+ years using structures hand tools, test equipment, torque wrenches, sheet metal brakes, and sheers.
• 3+ years using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Assembles, installs, tests, checks out, and inspects mechanical spacecraft assemblies by interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
• Performs second party verifications and visually inspects mechanical assemblies to drawings, engineering specs, and written procedures.
• Operates materials handling equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lift equipment, flight vehicle and sub-assembly transportation equipment, and truck/tractor trailer combinations.
• Operates machine tools including drill press, grinders, chop saws, power tools, and hand tools.
• Interfaces with Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, Procurement, and Shipping on procedural issues involving design, methods, tooling, cost, and product quality.
• Uses precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators for dimensional verification.
• Works with adhesives, composites, epoxy, fabrics, honeycomb core, laminates, plastics, or resins for spacecraft assembly.
• Uses structures hand tools, test equipment, torque wrenches, sheet metal brakes, and sheers for assembly operations.
• Works in at least a 100,000 Class Clean Room environment.
• Performs mechanical troubleshooting, disassembly, and repair of component-level space products including avionics boxes, batteries, mechanisms, optics, PCBA, and solar arrays.

• More than 5 years of experience with Structures Assembly, Mechanical Assembly, Electrical Assembly, or Final Assembly.
• More than 3 years of experience following written and verbal work instructions.
• More than 3 years of experience working with blueprints, specifications, assembly drawings, and standard operating procedures.
• More than 3 years of experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• More than 3 years of experience working with at least one of the following materials: adhesives, composites, epoxy, fabrics, honeycomb core, laminates, plastics, or resins.
• More than 3 years of experience using structures hand tools, test equipment, torque wrenches, sheet metal brakes, and sheers.
• More than 3 years of experience using Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Capable of lifting 20lbs or more on a frequent basis and able to stand, reach, bend, or stoop for extended periods.
