Summary

Celestica Maple Grove is seeking a Mechanical Assembly (Dry Side) Operations Lead. This is a newly created position reporting to the Dry side Supervisor to enable future growth, development a deeper talent pool, provide increased support to Production employees, and ensure daily execution.

A successful candidate will have experience in plastic injection molding, and mechanical assemblies. In addition to technical skills and a strong mechanical aptitude, a strong Lead is able to coach and develop peers, schedule production and continuous improvement activities, while taking on strategic projects.

Over the next five years, Celestica Maple Grove’s Machine Shop will strive to be a domestic machining and mechanical assembly center of excellence for internal and external customers.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Acts as lead and problem solver, balances personnel and facilitates the movement of product(s) through designated area of responsibility.
  • Monitors the conduct, performance and contribution of cell members.
  • Performs manual assembly, operation of automated assembly equipment, hand soldering, operation of automated test equipment, and inspection and repair of products.
  • Monitors quantity and quality output and leads production or prototype team to meet group goals.
  • Compiles data and generates reports on cell performance.
  • Possesses foundation skills and appropriate technical / leadership skills.
  • Update daily tier 1 board with production results.
  • Provide guidance to team and assist with trouble shooting production issues.
  • Assist in training new team members.
  • Assign jobs based on skill level of employee.
  • Verify operators are following work instructions, completing first piece and in process inspections.
  • Insure operators understand and are following all safety protocol and using proper PPE.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
  • Preferred to specialize in one or more of the following areas:
    • Injection Molding
    • Mechanical Assembly
  • Knowledge of the following measuring tools:
    • Micrometer
    • Caliper
    • Thread Gages/Pin Gages
    • Toolroom Scoop
    • Optical Comparator
  • Must possess specific certifications as defined by site operations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of product quality and process flow.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work effectively with team members and lead the team to high quality production within tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and the ability to accurately perform tasks in the applications appropriate to the area e.g.: Word, Excel and Documentation control systems.
Physical Demands
  • Duties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional to frequent exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, etc.
  • Duties of the position require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions requiring manual dexterity and precise hand/eye coordination, sitting and or standing in confined workspaces, using tools and equipment, and moving and handling materials.
  • Duties may require periodic heavy manual effort including lifting objects.
  • Duties require extended periods of sustained visual concentration on detailed documentation and product assemblies.
  • Above demands are carried out within the local existing Health and Safety guidelines.
Typical Experience
  • Four to five years of relevant experience.
Typical Education
  • High school diploma and additional courses after high school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience and a commitment towards further / additional education.

Salary:

The hourly range described in this posting is an estimate by the Company, and may change based on several factors, including but not limited to a change in the duties covered by the job posting, or the credentials, experience or geographic jurisdiction of the successful candidate. Hourly Range: $20.80 - $29.42.
