Job description

Thayer Scale, a global leader in industrial weighing technology, needs an energetic, motivated individual to join our Manufacturing Team. In this role, you will plan and perform mechanical assembly on a variety of products, such as conveyor belt scales, weigh feeders, bridge breakers, UL panels, and other systems. You will assemble components and work individually or as part of a group, under job supervision.

General Summary
Requires the ability to read and understand schematics, instructions, and diagrams. Necessary information is available within drawings and specifications. Requires mechanical aptitude and previous mechanical assembly experience and troubleshooting knowledge.

Supervision

Supervision is provided by the Manufacturing Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

  • All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules outlined by the Thayer Scale employee handbook.
  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
  • Mount and connect auxiliary, mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, or hydraulic equipment.
  • Drill, tap, or ream holes, using drill press or portable drill.
  • Align components and bolt, screw, or rivet them together, using hand tools or portable powered tools.
  • Install moving parts, such as shafts, levers, or bearings, and work them to test free movement.
  • May align and mesh gears in gearbox to assemble a system of gears.
  • May operate drill presses and punch presses to assist in assembly operations.

Other Required Duties and Responsibilities

  • When required, provide assistance to other company staff in completion of their daily duties.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Other company-related duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to read and work from drawings, schematics, and verbal instructions.
  • Maintain work area in neat, clean, and organized condition.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Observe all safety regulations and practices.
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum of one year experience or completion of a vocational school program. Requires the use of judgment to plan and perform assembly techniques. Requires planning as necessary to determine the best appearing and most efficient assembly. Requires the use of judgment to analyze results and recommend corrective action.

Certificates
Valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements/work Environment
Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:

  • Making observations.
  • Reading and writing.

  • Operating industrial equipment.

Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:

  • Sitting, standing, or crouching for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally work on elevated platforms.
  • Occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds.
