Job description

Mechanical Assembler II is responsible for the assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and integration of precision mechanical systems, subassemblies, and machine components. This position requires a higher level of technical proficiency in blueprint interpretation, machine assembly, precision alignment, and manufacturing processes. The Mechanical Assembler II works independently on standard and moderately complex assemblies, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and serves as a resource for Mechanical Assembler I employees.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Assemble and integrate standard and moderately complex mechanical systems, subassemblies, and machine components.
  • Independently build and test hydraulic, pneumatic, cooling, lubrication, and electromechanical subassemblies.
  • Perform dovetail slide assembly and alignment, ensuring components meet engineering and quality specifications.
  • Complete small-frame machine assemblies from base build through power-up readiness with minimal supervision.
  • Install and verify machine components including motors, bearings, ball screws, slides, pneumatic systems, and associated hardware.
  • Perform mechanical fit-up, alignment, adjustment, and troubleshooting activities during assembly.
  • Participate in machine start-up and functional testing activities.
  • Identify assembly issues and recommend corrective actions to Engineering or Manufacturing leadership.
  • Interpret detailed blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, bills of material, and work instructions.
  • Identify discrepancies between drawings and assembled products and communicate findings appropriately.
  • Locate, retrieve, and maintain current engineering documentation required for manufacturing activities.
  • Provide feedback to improve work instructions and assembly documentation.
  • Perform in-process inspections to verify dimensional and assembly requirements.
  • Ensure work meets established quality standards and product specifications.
  • Assist in root cause investigations related to assembly issues and non-conformances.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend process improvements that enhance product quality, safety, efficiency, or throughput.
  • Accurately record labor transactions and production activity within the ERP system.
  • Monitor work order progress and ensure timely completion of manufacturing tasks.
  • Review material shortages, drawing revisions, and production documentation as needed.
  • Assist in training employees on proper labor reporting and manufacturing documentation practices.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
  • Perform daily inspections of hoists, cranes, ladders, and other equipment used within the assembly area.
  • Follow and actively promote PPE requirements and safe work practices.
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards, near misses, and quality concerns.
  • Maintain clean, organized workstations and support 5S initiatives.
  • Assist in training and onboarding new Mechanical Assemblers.
  • Provide technical guidance and support on standard assembly procedures.
  • Share best practices and reinforce quality and safety expectations within the team.
  • Support cross-training efforts to improve departmental flexibility and workforce development.
  • Lead by example through professionalism, attendance, quality workmanship, and safety compliance.
This is what you’ll need to be successful in this role:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Technical school certificate, vocational training, or equivalent manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of mechanical assembly, manufacturing, machine building, or related industrial experience preferred.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, blueprints, and assembly schematics.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical assembly techniques and manufacturing practices.
  • Experience assembling hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as:
    • Calipers
    • Micrometers
    • Dial indicators
    • Height gages
    • Torque tools
  • Proficient in the use of standard hand tools and power tools.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and manufacturing documentation practices.
  • Communicates effectively with production personnel, engineers, quality representatives, and leadership.
  • Clearly documents issues and progress updates.
  • Collaborates effectively across departments to achieve production and customer objectives.
  • Supports teammates and contributes to a positive work environment.
  • Takes ownership of quality, productivity, and safety responsibilities.
  • Consistently completes assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Adjusts to changing schedules, priorities, engineering changes, and production demands.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in supporting multiple assembly areas and products.
  • Identifies assembly challenges and develops practical solutions.
  • Escalates issues appropriately while contributing to resolution efforts.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery, cranes, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Visual ability to inspect detailed mechanical assemblies and interpret technical drawings.
