Long Description

OVERVIEW:

The successful candidate will have previous experience working in an active rail yard environment and/or similar rolling stock environment; be an effective team member and communicator; and be willing to assist with additional duties as necessary. Employee performs highly skilled maintenance, installation, repair, and troubleshooting work involving mechanical assemblies.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

• Responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment.
• Must have strong troubleshooting, blueprint reading, and hydraulic skills.
• Willing to work with all types of building and production equipment
• Layout, assemble, test, and install, apparatus and equipment, working from blueprints, schematics, sketches, verbal instructions, and other specifications.
• Diagnose and repair trouble involving installations and equipment.
• Fabricate and install necessary equipment to accomplish tasks.
• Prepare work to be accomplished by studying assembly instructions, blueprint specifications, and parts lists, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
• Align, fit, and assemble component parts, using hand tools, power tools, measuring tools and blueprints.
• Verify specifications by measuring completed components. Install, repair, and service specialized mechanical equipment, machinery, panels, and wiring.
• Complete installations and necessary testing to verify work.
• Bonding activities and the use of approved chemicals may be required.
• Previous knowledge and use of torque wrenches is preferred.
• The essential functions of individual positions within the classification may differ. CAF USA may assign reasonably related additional duties to individual employees consistent with policy and precedence.
• Additional responsibilities may be added or amended at any time to reflect changing business conditions.

TRAINING/EDUCATION REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or graduation from a certified technical school.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

• Two or more years of related experience.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

• Shall report all injuries/illnesses to their supervisor that occur at work, the day of the incident.
• Shall report any unsafe conditions that are identified in their respective work area to their supervisor.
• Shall work safely in an active rail yard environment that may include exposure to:
• Moving railcars, vehicles, and forklifts
• Energized systems in excess of 600-volt direct current (DC) overhead and on railcars
• Fall and trip hazards, including work at heights, pits, electrical cords, air hoses, raised rails, and machinery
• Overhead doors and cranes
• Shall comply with all CAF USA safety policies, procedures, and requirements that are communicated to them, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures.
• Shall wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is communicated and supplied to them.
• Shall keep their respective work area clean and orderly at all times.
• Shall attend all CAF USA required training as soon as possible before the start of their assigned work.
• Shall NOT operate any CAF USA equipment (forklifts, cranes, scissor lifts) until certified to do so.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $25.00/hr to $32.00/hr.
