Job summary

Lubrizol Corporation seeks a Mechanical and Piping Engineer to support capital projects and plant improvements in a complex industrial setting. You will lead design activities for mechanical and piping systems, ensuring safety, reliability, and constructability from concept through commissioning.

You will apply industry codes, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and own documentation and QA verifications to drive asset integrity and operational excellence.

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical and piping design activities across static and rotating equipment, piping, and related systems.
  • Apply process safety management, MOC, hazard reviews, and pre-startup safety checks throughout design and execution.
  • Define, witness, and approve QA activities and verifications in factory and field settings.
  • Own mechanical completion checklists and ensure installed assets meet design intent and safety requirements.
  • Maintain site mechanical documentation including P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and relief device documentation.
  • Interpret codes and standards to ensure constructability, operability, and lifecycle cost considerations.

As a Mechanical and Piping Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting capital projects and plant improvements within a complex industrial manufacturing environment. Acting as the mechanical and piping discipline engineer, you will serve as a trusted technical authority for mechanical systems; owning design, review, and performance verification from concept through commissioning. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement safe, reliable, and fit-for-purpose solutions that support operational excellence across the asset lifecycle. By applying industry codes and engineering best practices, you will ensure designs are efficient, constructible, maintainable, and aligned with safety and asset integrity requirements.

In this role, you will:
  • Lead and direct mechanical and piping design activities, developing comprehensive statements of work and ensuring integration across static equipment, rotating equipment, piping, structural systems, and original equipmentmanufacturerpackaged systems.
  • Apply process safety and risk management practices, including Management of Change, hazard review, and pre-startup safety checks throughout design and execution.
  • Define,witness, and approve critical quality assurance activities and performance verifications in both factory and field settings.
  • Own mechanical completion checklists and verify installed assets meet design intent and are safe to start up.
  • Serve as the accountable owner for site mechanical technical documentation including piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment datasheets, and relief device documentation.
  • Interpret and apply company and industry codes and standards to resolve technical conflicts and embed constructability, operability, maintainability, and lifecycle cost considerations into designs.
  • Influence project outcomes through sound technical judgment, risk-based decision making, and continuous improvement of mechanical standards.
Required Qualifications that Enable Your Success
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering ora relatedfield.
  • 4+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering, design, or project support within manufacturing or related environments.
  • Experience supporting equipment design, installation, or system improvements (e.g. rotating equipment, piping, or industrial systems).
  • Experience with industrial codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII, API or comparable standards).
  • Experience reviewing engineering deliverables and supporting projects through installation and startup.
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management and Mechanical Integrity requirements including Management of Change and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across teams and with external partners.
  • Proficiency with two-dimensional and three-dimensional computer-aided design tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, or Plant 3D.
  • Strong field presence with the ability to translate design intent into safe, constructible, and maintainable installations.
Preferred Qualifications that Drive You Forward
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.
  • Reliability or Mechanical Integrity exposure including inspection standards, fitness-for-service, risk-based inspection, or condition monitoring.
  • Capital project lifecycle experience from front-end loading through start-up and stage-gate processes.
