Job summary

Midrex Technologies, Inc. seeks a Mechanical 3D Designer to deliver conceptual and detailed design of mechanical/piping systems for industrial plant projects.

You will create 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using Aveva E3D, PDMS, AutoCAD Inventor, and related Autodesk tools, collaborating with engineers and senior designers to meet time and quality goals. Travel up to 10% internationally and domestically, contribute to proposals with bulk-material estimates, and support field erection and

Qualifications

  • Associate degree required; 4+ years in a technical environment.
  • Advanced 3D modeling with Aveva E3D/PDMS and related Autodesk products.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables) and excellent writing.
  • Ability to meet schedules and deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Leadership and Engineers to lead project work.
  • Create mechanical drawings for basic and detailed engineering of plant facilities.
  • Create and support 3D CAD models used to design Midrex plants.
  • Check drawings for consistency with concepts, design and standards.
  • Travel to job sites for analyses to inform future plans.
  • Assist in proposing design changes to improve outcomes.
  • Support Sales and Estimating with bulk-material estimates from models.

Qualifications
Position Summary:

This position requires providing conceptual and detailed design of mechanical/piping systems & components used during project execution of industrial plant design.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Mechanical 3D Designer does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Work with Leadership, Senior Engineers, Engineers, and Senior Designers assigned to lead project work.
  • Perform computer aided drafting necessary to create mechanical drawings for the basic and detailed engineering of a Midrex plant, especially to create and support the 3D CAD models used to design Midrex plants.
  • Be proficient in the use of computer aided drafting and design software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Aveva E3D and related Autodesk products.
  • Take and/or prepare conceptual designs, sketches, and ideas from Engineer’s and Senior Designer’s requirements to develop the details necessary for a complete, engineered drawing capable of being used for purchasing, erection in the field, design analysis, etc.
  • Layout of plant equipment, piping, and utility systems in 3D model of plant.
  • Perform checking of mechanical drawings for consistency with conceptual ideas, design, sketches, applicable standards, etc.
  • Travel to job sites to perform analyses of existing structures, equipment, piping routes, layouts, etc. for use in developing future plans, proposals, etc.
  • Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental tasks and functions.
  • Assist Senior Designers and Engineers by suggesting design changes that might improve the desired results of the design.
  • Work as a teammate with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.
  • Provide support to the Sales and Estimating groups in preparation of proposals, including bulk-material estimates developed from existing models and databases.
Skills/Abilities:
Required
  • Advanced 3D computer modeling skills including use of Aveva E3D and PDMS products (or equivalent).
  • Advanced computer skills including use of Microsoft and Autodesk products.
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables and developing lists for engineering.
  • Excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines.
Preferred
  • International travel experience.
  • Industrial plant experience.
  • AutoCAD Inventor experience.
  • Database management of engineering and/or modeling data.
Education and Experience:
  • Associate Degree in civil and/or mechanical discipline.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of hands-on experience in a technical environment.
Travel Requirements:
  • Up to 10% International and Domestic based upon project demands.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to move around a project site, including climbing structures.
