Responsibilities

  • Has thorough general knowledge of tools.
  • Reads a micrometer, depth gauge or dial calipers.
  • Cleans corrosion and treats metal surfaces per instructions.
  • Performs simple sheet metal repairs or replacements of structural parts.
  • Fabricates replacement coverings, panels or fairings using removed parts as samples.
  • Repairs cosmetic areas in passenger cabin interiors.
  • Disassembles and reassembles aircraft galleys and lavatories.
  • Identifies fasteners and determines grip lengths.
  • Follows basic sealing procedures for aircraft structures.
  • Identifies pressurized areas of the aircraft.
  • Opens/closes areas required for inspection.
  • Applies corrosion preventatives appropriately.

SUMMARY

The Technician S/M is responsible for being proficient in minor and intermediate repairs, modifications and service bulletins.

Skills required:
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally in writing in standard English.

  • Able to interface in a professional manner with other AAR Aircraft Services - Miami employees at all levels and with customers if required.

  • Able to comprehend and follow instructions.

Experience and education required for consideration:
  • High school education or G.E.D. preferred.

  • May or may not have an Airframe license.

  • Must meet minimum requirements of a Sheetmetal Apprentice

Physical requirements:
  • Exposed to high levels of noise, dust, vibration and chemical fumes.

  • Able to lift fifty (50) pounds without mechanical assistance.

  • Able to bend, twist, squat and lift.

  • Able to access and work in all areas of the aircraft to be worked on, including confined areas.

  • Able to climb on ladders and platforms and work at heights up to fifty feet from theground.

  • Able to work in extreme climatic conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Has thorough general knowledge of tools.

  • Understands how to read a micrometer, depth gauge or dial calipers.

  • Cleans corrosion and treats metal surfaces per the manufacturer’s instructions and specifications.

  • Accomplishes simple sheet metal repairs or simple replacements of structural parts.

  • Fabricates replacement covering, panels or fairings by using the removed parts as samples.

  • Accomplishes repairs of a cosmetic nature in passenger cabin interiors.

  • Disassembles and reassembles aircraft galleys and lavatories.

  • Identifies fasteners and determines grip lengths required.

  • Understands and practices correctly basic sealing procedures of aircraft structures.

  • Identifies the locations of pressurized areas of the aircraft.

  • Opens and closes areas on the aircraft which are required to be opened for inspection.

  • Applies corrosion preventatives and knows to which areas of the aircraft corrosion inhibitingliquids may not be applied.

  • May effect bonded repairs of honeycomb structures.

  • Follows standards of behavior and appearance for all staff members.

  • Asks questions as necessary to increase knowledge or skill.

  • Maintains her/his work area in an orderly and clean manner.

  • Cleans and removes any foreign objects generated during the course of effecting repairs.

  • Records her/his time worked as directed by her/his supervisor.

  • Complies with all safety procedures at all times, without exception.

  • Complies with all AAR Aircraft Services - Miami policies and procedures which apply to her/him.

  • Keeps her/himself informed of such policies and procedures and asks her/his supervisor for explanations of anything which s/he does not fully understand.

  • Attends work-related training as scheduled.

  • Performs such other tasks as may be reasonably assigned by her/his supervisor.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree required. Must have a minimum of 1 year related experience and/or training. -May or may not have an Airframe and Powerplant license. -Computer keypunch experience -Previous experience in warehousing, handling inventory, and bar code equipment.
