Job summary

WM (Waste Management) is seeking a Mechanic Technician in Keene, NH to diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment. The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and efficient repairs within standard repair times.

You will document work, utilize fleet software, and support training for other technicians while upholding high quality workmanship and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Two years as a mechanic technician on heavy equipment or trucks.
  • Two years inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and stationary equipment.
  • Must be 18+ and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Valid driver's license on hire.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical issues on engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Repair and replace components following manufacturer specifications and safety guidelines.
  • Document work, parts usage, and labor hours in the fleet software.
  • Test vehicle systems, calibrate sensors, and adjust as needed for proper performance.
  • Collaborate with teammates and mentor junior staff as required.

Job description

I. Job Summary

As a Mechanic Technician, you will work under general supervision and be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment. You will utilize your technical expertise and problem-solving skills to ensure the safe and efficient operation of machinery, vehicles, and systems. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality workmanship. Must have all required tools to fulfill the responsibilities and requirements of the job.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards, and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures, including Hazardous Energy Control Procedures (HECP) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Communicate directions and specifications verbally and in writing to team members.
  • Demonstrate high quality work, performed with limited repeat repairs and within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Demonstrate ability to aid and train other technicians in repairs and WM procedures and policies.
  • Use time effectively; prevent irrelevant issues or distractions from interfering with work completion.
  • Document Work and Parts Usage: Maintain accurate records of work performed, including repairs, replacements, and maintenance tasks. Record parts usage, labor hours, and diagnostic findings utilizing fleet maintenance software program.
  • Test and Adjust Systems: Test vehicle systems and components to ensure proper functionality and alignment. Adjust settings, calibrate sensors, and perform fine-tuning as necessary to optimize performance and efficiency.
  • Diagnose Mechanical Issues: Perform diagnostic tests to identify mechanical problems and malfunctions in vehicles, engines, and equipment. Use specialized tools and equipment to troubleshoot issues and determine the most effective repair solutions.
  • Complete required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Repair and Replace Components: Conduct repairs and replacements on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, electrical systems, and other mechanical components. Follow manufacturer specifications and safety guidelines to ensure quality repairs and optimal performance.
  • Maintain Tools and Equipment: Properly maintain and care for tools, equipment, and shop facilities to ensure they are in good working condition. Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards to promote a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Provide Support: Collaborate with other technicians, mechanics, and supervisors to troubleshoot complex issues and share knowledge and expertise. Offer technical guidance and assistance to junior staff members as needed.
  • Estimate time and material costs on vehicle repairs, requisition new parts, and communicate immediately if additional work is needed or if repairs cannot be completed within SRTs.
  • Perform service calls and appropriate emergency breakdown repairs.
  • Complete all assigned mandatory online and in class training modules.

  • Starting salary of $23.29 - $34.94 per hour depending on experience

The hours and location you'll work in as a Diesel/CNG Mechanic with WM:
  • Monday - Friday every week
  • First Shift 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • Some Saturdays when needed
  • We're committed to offering you stable hours for the financial security and work life balance you need.
  • The normal setting for this job is a repair / maintenance shop at our Woburn, MA hauling site.
III. Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications
  • 2 years as a mechanic technician working on heavy equipment/trucks or similar role, preferably in a diesel, automotive, construction, or industrial setting and
  • 2 years inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and stationary equipment and
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located
  • Valid Driver's License Upon Hire and
B. Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
  • In some circumstances, a valid driver's license may not be required upon hire
