Job summary

Roberts Hawaii is seeking a vehicle maintenance professional to ensure safe operating conditions across the fleet. You will assist mechanics, train junior staff, diagnose issues, and perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance in a shop setting.

Excellent written and verbal communication is required; English proficiency and basic tools are essential. Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, is a must.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least two years of work-related mechanic helper experience or technical training.
  • Good written and verbal communication; able to write simple reports.
  • Must read, write, and speak English; valid license preferred.
  • Able to work flexible days, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Assist 1st and 2nd class mechanics with repairs.
  • Train and supervise underclass technicians as needed.
  • Diagnose reported mechanical discrepancies and take corrective action.
  • Perform routine repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Generate daily written work orders for tasks completed.
  • Maintain clean and organized shop area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

This position is responsible for ensuring the safe working condition of all Roberts’ vehicles by performing moderately supervised repairs and maintenance of all company vehicles.The incumbent is also responsible to deliver a high level of personalized service to all clients, passengers, vendors, etc.

Essential Functions:
Incumbent may perform any or all of the following:
  • Assist 1st class and 2nd class mechanics with repairs
  • Trains (supervises) underclass technician (i.e., mechanic helper)
  • Performs diagnosis and corrective action of reported mechanical discrepancies within ability
  • Performs routine repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Generates written work orders on a daily basis to account for task(s) accomplishment(s) work performed
  • Performs general housekeeping of shop area
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
Essential Skills (Minimum qualifications individual must possess when entering position) – i.e. skillsets, education, certifications, etc.
  • Must be at least 18 year of age
  • Must be able to write simple correspondence and basic reports – i.e. skillsets, education, certifications, etc.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of work-related experience as a mechanic helper; and or training (e.g. technical / trade school preferred); or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Must communicate well verbally and in writing.Good listening skills is required.
  • Able to speak, read, write in English.
  • Type 3 License with a motor vehicle driver history record, preferred.
  • Must own basic hand-tools (e.g. sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, hammer, etc.)
  • Must be able to work flexible days / hours – weekends, nights, holiday
  • Operational knowledge of basic hand tools required
  • Operational knowledge of basic shop equipment (e.g. vise, press, floor jacks, etc.) required
  • Recognizes problems and responds, systematically gathers information, sorts through complex issues, seeks input from others, addresses root cause of issues, makes timely decisions, can make difficult decisions, uses consensus when possible, communicates decisions to others

Essential Functions:

Medium to heavy work: Exerting up to 70 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must have good manual dexterity which involves frequent bending, stooping, overhead reaching, kneeling, squatting and other physical demands
  • Must be able to work in a repair shop environment where loud noises, exhaust fumes and chemicals are commonly present
  • Must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discriminations in sound
  • Must have visual acuity to perform an activity such as, but not limited to: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical or skilled trade’s tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as mechanics, etc.
  • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation
  • The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids
  • Some remote work may be necessary
