Job summary

Sumter School District is seeking a dedicated Mechanic to maintain district vehicles and lawn equipment. The position requires 3 years of mechanical experience with diesel engines, a high school diploma, and a valid South Carolina driver's license.

A current CDL is required or must be maintained. You will report to the Mechanic Supervisor and Director of Maintenance, work a 240-day schedule, and diagnose and repair district assets, including keeping records and assisting in training other staff.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose problems and repair district motorized vehicles and lawn equipment.
• Provide receipts and vehicle repair forms to the maintenance office timely.
• Assist in training district mechanics.
• Remain flexible to retrieve vehicles outside normal school hours.
• Maintain a safe and clean mechanic shop.
• Work outdoors for eight hours a day and lift regularly.
• Collaborate with colleagues in a cooperative and respectful manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

SUMTER SCHOOL DISTRICT

Position: Mechanic

Qualifications: High School Graduate

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

Reports To: Mechanic Supervisor and Director of Maintentance

Length of Service: 240 days

Rate of Pay: Based upon credentials and experience in accordance with the district-approved pay schedule.

JOB GOAL: To maintain all district vehicles and lawn equipment in acceptable workingcondition.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Diagnose problems and make appropriate repairs on all district motorized vehicles and lawn equipment.
• Provides receipts and vehicle repair/equipment forms to the maintenance office in a timely manner.
• Assists in the training of district mechanics.
• Remains flexible and available for retrieving vehicles that need repairs outside of normal school hours.
• Maintains a safe and clean mechanic shop.
• Must be able to work outside for eight (8) hours a day (flexible schedule as may be required) and lift on a regular basis.
• Works with others consistently in a cooperative and respectful manner.
• Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
