Join our HII Mission Technologies team– We work on the only shipyard to execute the Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) of a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. The mid-life RCOH includes refueling of nuclear reactors, overhauling most machinery, and modernizing warfare systems. RCOH ensures the Navy's aircraft carriers incorporate improved capabilities needed for success in the remaining 25 years of service. Your accomplishments will make a positive impact supporting the U.S. Navy and America’s national defense! We are seeking a Master Tradesperson 3 (Mid-level mechanic) to join our growing team. The selected Outside Machinist/Mechanic candidate will support RCOH, working closely with our skilled trades teams, on surface ships, utilizing various tools of the trade, removing, installing and upgrading industrial systems and equipment. Weekend and/or overtime hours may be required depending on contract awards and support required as per trade/skill set.

  • Able to work within tradesteam on active class surface ships to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance and technical support on shipboard systems, integrated systems, and related equipment/software onboard Aircraft Carriers.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.
  • Apply understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignments.
  • Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others.
  • Perform a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks.
  • Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • High School diploma, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of mechanical experience.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs of mechanical systems and its associated equipment.
  • Must be able to read mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Must be able to follow and enforce safety procedures to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD confidential security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment.
  • Must have knowledge of safety and quality control steps and procedures.
Preferred Requirements
  • Shipboard experience is preferred.
  • Candidates who have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school, apprenticeship program or a skilled trades certificate program are preferred.
  • Current or active DoD clearance a plus.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
