The expected salary range for this position on hire is $65,551 - $104,210.

The Department of General Services, Fleet Management Services provides a comprehensive fleet management program that responsibly meets the needs of our county customers. We strategically plan, maintain, acquire, and dispose of county fleet vehicles and equipment, providing cost-effective and efficient fleet operations with transparency and accountability through a dedicated, highly trained, and certified fleet staff.

What We're Looking For

The Department of General Services, Fleet Management Services is seeking a Mechanic Instructor for its Division of Fleet Management. The Mechanic Instructor will be part of the Training/Quality Assurance Team at the Division of Fleet Management Services.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect work in progress or upon completion to ensure proper repair and maintenance; provide guidance, assistance, and training; respond to maintenance/repair questions.
  • Provide technical advice on complex jobs.
  • Conduct training for employees performing maintenance and repair work.
  • Advise management on training needs.
  • Recommend process improvements.
  • Monitor and enforce preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Track repair times, materials used, and input data into the vehicle maintenance system.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, service/recall bulletins, and fleet defect reports; recommend training.
  • Contribute to work plans and technician evaluations; recommend tools and equipment purchases; perform quality assurance inspections.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED or High School Proficiency Examination).

Experience: Seven (7) years of verifiable, responsible experience in diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and inspecting transit buses, automotive, heavy-duty diesel or gasoline vehicles, or trucks.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Class “A” or “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsements.
  • US EPA Air Conditioning Certification (Section 608 and 609).

Within 18 months, obtain and maintain:

  • ASE certifications as Master Medium-Heavy Truck Technician and Master Transit Bus Technician.
  • OSHA Industrial Forklift Certification.
Physical Demands

Must perform physically strenuous work, including lifting items up to 100 pounds or more.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an automotive-related field or trade school graduation.
  • Experience conducting training sessions.
  • Knowledge of fleet operations and management principles.
  • Experience with automated systems and software.
