Mechanic, Level II Burton, OH Description

Position Core Profile

Mechanic II is a mid-level position responsible for performing routine diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and moderate repairs on company vehicles and equipment with minimal supervision. This role requires a solid understanding of vehicle systems, basic welding and fabrication techniques, and service protocols, and plays a key role in supporting daily fleet operations. Mechanic II also assists with troubleshooting, quality control, and may provide guidance to Mechanic I team members.

• Diagnostic Capability: Uses diagnostic tools to identify and resolve common issues with gas-powered vehicles and landscaping equipment.

Accountabilities

• Maintenance & Repair: Perform intermediate-level PM services and scheduled maintenance on vehicles and landscaping equipment; Complete brake replacements, cooling system repairs, suspension work, belt and hose replacements, and minor electrical repairs; Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks such as repairing brackets, exhaust components, guards, frames, and minor structural elements using MIG or stick welding; Assist with simple metal fabrication projects, including cutting, grinding, fitting, and installing steel or aluminum components as directed; Inspect, diagnose, and resolve common drivability issues.
• Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Use diagnostic tools to assess warning lights, performance issues, or fault codes.
• Identify repair solutions based on test results and visual inspections; Communicate root causes and recommendations to supervisor or lead mechanic.
• Shop Operations: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment; Assist with inventory tracking and parts ordering; Follow proper disposal protocols for hazardous materials.
• Documentation & Systems: Accurately complete work orders, inspections, and service records in fleet management software (e.g., Fleetio); Ensure compliance with DOT, safety, and company documentation standards.
• Collaboration & Support: Provide support and guidance to Mechanic I team members; Work with operations and logistics teams to schedule repairs without disrupting service delivery.

Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Completion of a certified automotive or diesel technology program preferred.
• Experience: 2+ years of experience in vehicle or equipment maintenance; Familiarity with landscaping vehicles and equipment (e.g., trucks, trailers, mowers, skid steers) strongly preferred.
• Licensing/Certification: Valid driver’s license required; Possession of or progress toward relevant certifications (e.g., ASE, DOT brake inspections) encouraged; CDL is a plus but not required.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems; proficient in using diagnostic software and tolls

Working Conditions And Availability Disclosure

• Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and lift up to 50 lns regularly; frequent use of hand tools, lifting equipment, and diagnostic devises; require visual acuity and manual dexterity to inspect and service equipment.
• Primarily Monday through Friday with early morning, evening, or emergency response requirements—especially during peak seasons or urgent fleet issues.
• Occasional local travel for roadside service calls, fueling, or equipment pickup/drop-off.
