Job Summary

Under the direction of the Supervisor II, operates, maintains, repairs, installs, and replaces machinery and mechanical equipment using diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, or manufacturer's specifications. Works independently or with other mechanics and helpers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, adjust, repair, operate, and maintain specialized machinery such as pumps, compressors, air-moving equipment, heat exchangers, and valves.
  • Repair or replace defective parts using hand tools and precision instruments; fabricate parts if necessary; initiate parts and equipment orders.
  • Read instruments and gauges; record temperatures, pressures, and humidity levels.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment.
  • Analyze situations requiring modification or repair and make recommendations.
  • Respond to emergency calls during assigned shifts; perform emergency repairs on refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC equipment.
  • Coordinate and inspect work performed by mechanics or helpers as assigned.
  • Complete daily activity reports detailing assignments and hours worked.
  • Adhere to all Rowan SOM compliance standards, policies, and code of conduct.
  • Properly requisition, store, safeguard, and use equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Interact respectfully with individuals of all ages in a diverse environment.
  • Attend required training sessions.
  • Perform end-of-shift cleanup and final checks.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Perform additional facility duties such as snow removal as required.
  • Provide excellent customer service and foster team rapport.
  • Present a clean uniform appearance.
Job Requirements

Requires a technical school diploma or equivalent plus three years of experience in machine operation and repairs, including refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire alarm systems. Must have a valid driver’s license; a New Jersey Black Seal Engineer's License is preferred.

Physical Demands

Position involves standing, walking, handling, reaching, climbing, and performing physical labor including lifting weights over 50 pounds. Must have good vision and the ability to work in various environmental conditions, including emergencies during all weather conditions.

Work Environment

Exposure to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, chemicals, outdoor weather, electrical risks, and moderate noise. The role is essential, requiring reporting during emergencies.
