Job description

Perform advanced mechanical and electrical preventative maintenance on gasoline, propane, and diesel-powered engines, as well as heavy-duty off-road construction equipment. As a senior mechanic, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair trucks and heavy off-road equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily refueling and maintenance of construction equipment at project sites.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all vehicles and construction equipment.
  • Conduct state or pre-state safety inspections.
  • Use computerized diagnostic tools to evaluate and repair vehicles and equipment.
  • Supervise and instruct other mechanics or helpers, relaying instructions from supervisors.
  • Test equipment for safe and efficient operation.
  • Transport equipment as needed.
  • Make road calls and perform field repairs.
  • Order or request parts and supplies.
  • Design, fabricate, and build special projects for vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Note: Applicants must complete the work history and education sections of the application to demonstrate the required experience and education; failure to do so may result in disqualification.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED. An additional four years of related experience may substitute for a high school diploma.

At least three years of full-time mechanic experience required (diesel mechanic preferred), with heavy truck/off-road mechanic experience strongly preferred.

Certification from an accredited Mechanic Trade School may substitute for one year of experience.

A valid Class C driver license is required upon hire. A Class A CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements must be obtained within eight months of hire.

Additional certifications such as A/C or ASE coursework, Vehicle Inspection License, and Welder Certification are preferred.

Experience with Controlled Area Network (CAN) systems is preferred.

Additional technician certifications and licenses are preferred, especially for highly complex off-road construction equipment.

The selected candidate must pass a pre-placement physical examination and drug screening.

If hired, proof of educational attainment must be provided during new hire processing.
