Job summary

HE Parts is seeking a qualified maintenance technician to support the rebuild process. You will test and verify parts meet HEPI standards using magnaflux and magnetic testing, inspect external parts, and perform demagnetization and documentation daily.

Ideal candidates have a strong mechanical background, ability to lift 50 lb, and experience with precision measuring tools. This is a full-time on-site role in Billings, MT.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • At least three years of mechanical work experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lb is required.
  • Previous experience in heavy equipment repair; mechanical aptitude, and basic understanding of precision measuring tools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy wet brake environment per standards; alert others of concerns.
  • Move parts using overhead cranes, scissor lifts, carts, and dollies.
  • Ensure precision equipment is maintained; follow maintenance plan, keep tools clean and secure.
  • Test magnaflux unit daily to ensure accuracy of tests.
  • Record magnaflux test results on the process control form daily.
  • Inspect repaired vendor parts and used parts from outside vendors.
  • Perform wet or dry magnetic testing to ensure parts meet HEPI guidelines.
  • Demagnetize parts to a max of 3 gauss and test with field indicator.
  • Record test results on NDT work order paperwork for each part.
  • Communicate test failures to Department Leaders and Team Leaders.
  • Send finished tested parts to the appropriate department for rebuild.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to test and determine if the parts that will be used in the rebuild process meet HEPI standards as defined in work order and ISO process instructions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy wet brake environment by adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns
  • Move parts by operating overhead cranes, scissor lifts, carts, and dollies
  • Ensure precision equipment is maintained by following scheduled maintenance plan, keeping tools clean, calibrated and placed in a secure location
  • Thoroughly clean and test magnaflux testing unit to assure accuracy in test procedures each day prior to conducting testing to ensure tests performed are accurate
  • Record magnaflux test results on process control form each day
  • Physically inspect repaired vendor (RV) and used parts from outside vendors
  • Perform the wet magnetic or dry magnetic product testing (using the wet mag or dry mag procedure) to ensure the part will meet recommended guidelines
  • Perform wet magnetic testing by placing the product in a stationary wet magnetic machine and ensuring that tests are performed in various stages and in at least two directions (this includes aligning the head and tail stock, inserting a central conductor pipe, and re-testing the part with the coil)
  • Perform flux density test on parts by reading a gauss gauge and assuring that density meets HEPI standards (at least 30)
  • Perform crack detection by spraying solution over the part using a continuous application method and then viewing the part under a black light to detect surface & subsurface cracks
  • Perform the demagnetization process which removes the magnetic field and testing with field indicator to ensure part is demagnetized to max of 3 gauss
  • Perform dry magnetic testing as needed following similar processes and standards as in the wet magnetic testing except while using a hand held yolk to perform the testing
  • Record test result findings for each individual part tested on the NDT portion of the work order paperwork
  • Communicate test failures competently with Department Leaders and Team Leaders
  • Send finished tested part to the appropriate department to be used for the rebuild process
QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.

At least three years of mechanical work experience or equivalent education is preferred.

Ability to lift up to 50# is required.

Previous experience in heavy equipment repair; mechanical aptitude, and basic understanding of precision measuring tools preferred.
