Job summary

Cooper Machinery Services, a Houston-based OEM for Cooper-Bessemer, Ajax, Superior and other legendary lines, is seeking a Mechanic II to join our Houston Machine Shop.

You will disassemble, repair, rebuild, and test natural gas engines and compressors for global customers, using precision tools and following engineering specs. We offer comprehensive benefits from day one and opportunities to grow with a world-class team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years experience in mechanical test/assembly or heavy equipment repair.
• Ability to read drawings, prints, schematics, and specs with basic math.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble, reassemble, test, and paint engine and compressor equipment.
• Use manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools to fit components.
• Clean, inspect, and repair engine/compressor parts in a shop.
• Read prints and measure with micrometers, calipers, and indicators.
• Set up and run tests to engineering specs.
• Troubleshoot equipment and perform minor maintenance.
• Perform risk assessments before operations and movements.
• Report problems and hazards; keep the shop safe and organized.
• Keep shop equipment and tooling operational and safe.
• Complete required documentation and training; take on additional duties.

What You Will Do

• Disassemble, position, reassemble, test, and paint moderate to highly complex natural gas engine and compressor equipment
• Use manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools to fit, adjust, and secure components
• Clean, inspect, and repair engine and compressor components in a shop environment
• Read detailed prints and take precise measurements with micrometers, dial calipers, and dial indicators
• Set up and run test operations to engineering specifications
• Troubleshoot equipment and perform minor maintenance
• Complete risk assessments before operations and material movements
• Report problems and hazardous conditions, and keep the shop safe, clean, and organized
• Keep facility equipment and tooling operational, efficient, and safe
• Complete required documentation and business training accurately, and take on additional duties as assigned

Who You Are

• High School Diploma or GED
• 2+ years of experience in mechanical test and assembly/disassembly, or heavy equipment repair and maintenance
• Able to interpret drawings, prints, schematics, and engineering specifications, with basic math skills
• Comfortable with tools and equipment, and able to troubleshoot and repair equipment
• Knowledgeable in safety regulations and good housekeeping practices
• Physically able to push, pull, lift, bend, and perform other physical tasks
• Available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required
• Valid driver's license
• A team player with strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail, who can work independently to engineering specifications

Preferred

• 2+ years of experience in operations or service center applications
• Strong knowledge of natural gas engine and compressor equipment
