Job summary

Progress Rail in Albertville, AL is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair of all shop equipment. You will work to keep machines running, improve reliability, and support production with preventive maintenance.

The role requires a High School Diploma and a minimum of 2 years' mechanical troubleshooting/repair experience; an Associate's degree is a plus. Night shifts and occasional weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years mechanical troubleshooting/repair experience; Associates degree considered.
• Experience with AC/DC machine drives and welding is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain lathes, mills, conveyors, overhead hoist, gear boxes, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Keep equipment operational to prevent production interruptions.
• Improve reliability and productivity of machines via continuous improvements.
• Track equipment downtime and assist with installation of new equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance as scheduled and fill out work orders correctly.
• Operate forklifts and overhead cranes; lift up to 50 pounds; work in confined spaces.

Job Purpose

Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair of all shop equipment and machines.

Key Job Elements

• Maintenance on lathes, mills, conveyors, overhead hoist, gear boxes, hydraulic and pneumatics systems, 480 volt electrical 3 phase equipment, PLC troubleshooting, etc.;
• Keep all equipment operational to ensure no production interruptions;
• Focus on continuous improvements to increase reliability and productivity of machines;
• Track equipment downtime;
• Installation of new equipment;
• Perform preventative maintenance as scheduled;
• Fill out work orders correctly.
• Operate Forklifts, Overhead cranes, and other equipment
• Position requires lifting of 50 pounds and stamina and strength to work in tight and confined spaces.
• Can be located inside or outside and exposed to high levels of noise.

Education / Training

• High School Diploma or equivalent;
• Minimum 2 years mechanical troubleshooting/repair experience, may consider Associates Degree in a maintenance related field.

Qualifications And Experience

• Ability to work Night Shift Hours and occasionally weekend hours;
• Good understanding of electrical maintenance required;
• Must have completed understanding of work practices;
• Able to multi-task and work with minimal supervision;
• Previous machining experience preferred;
• Welding experience preferred;
• Ability to read precision gauges and instruments;
• Ability to read and understand mechanical maintenance manuals;
• Experience with AC/DC machine drives;
• Able to interact with production and scheduling supervision and machine operators.
