Job summary

McLane Company, Inc. seeks a Mechanic II for 2nd shift to maintain and repair trailers, refrigeration units, and Class 8 tractors. You will diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, perform welding and cutting, and complete service paperwork.

Teamwork and safety compliance are essential as you work with supervision and peers. Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, basic hand tools, and a valid Class C Driver’s License.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; trade schooling for heavy diesel repairs preferred.
  • Some vehicle/equipment maintenance experience desired.
  • Basic hand tools and a valid Class C driver’s license required.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for safety and tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on trailers and refrigeration systems.
  • Repair Class 8 tractors and perform mechanical/electrical work.
  • Diagnose and repair brake systems, tires, batteries and drive lines.
  • Read service bulletins, use manuals, document work and maintain tools.

This is a fully trained shop mechanic who is able to perform all required shop job duties and routine preventative
maintenance functions. This position performs all repairs relating to tractor, trailer and minor repairs relating to the
refrigeration power unit.

  • Pay rate: $28.00 to $30.00 depending on experience, plus shift premium .40 per hour.
  • Shift: Sunday to Thursday 2:30 PM start time. Schedule can be adjusted if needed.

What you’ll do as an Mechanic II:
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on trailers and their refrigeration systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on Class 8 tractors
  • Perform simple and complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Must be able to perform the following repairs without supervision:
    • Diagnose, remove, repair, replace or rebuild:
      • Brake systems
      • Wheel seals
      • tires
      • tractor suspension
      • minor body repairs
      • batteries
      • drive lines
      • light repairs
  • Diagnose and make repairs on diesel engines.
  • Troubleshoot cooling systems.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests.
  • Cut or weld using cutting torch and welders.
  • Read, understand and use service bulletins and technical manuals.
  • Maintain shop tools.
  • Complete all paper work and computer input.
  • Comply effectively with company work and safety rules.
  • Effectively communicate both written and orally with supervisor and peers.
  • Follow directions.
  • Work independently and in a team environment.
  • Be trained and certified to operate any required equipment within 30 days after hire.
  • Comply with company attendance policy.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the changing needs of the job. Must be available for shop on-call rotation.
Qualifications you’ll bring as a Mechanic II:
  • Have High School Diploma or GED. Trade school graduate in heavy duty diesel repairs, and/or refrigeration
    classes is preferred. Beginning level is preferred as we will train for all repairs necessary.
  • Have some job experience on vehicle or equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Possess basic hand tools (up to ½” drive) and tool storage.
  • Possess a Valid Class C Driver’s License.
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, grasp, and reach above the head for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
