Job summary

Permian Basin Materials in Texas is seeking a maintenance technician to perform maintenance and repair of fleet equipment including ready mix trucks, semi tractors and medium duty trucks.   • Create and update work orders and input repair data into the maintenance system.

Job description

Perform maintenance and repair of various types of fleet equipment including ready mix trucks, semi tractors, medium duty trucks, and pneumatics. Maximize equipment availability with efficient and proactive preventative maintenance programs. Increasing responsibilities per job grade as indicated below.

Functional Responsibilities
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic with the ability to take direction and work in a team setting and independently.
  • Adhere to Permian Basin Materials Code of Conduct and company policies.
  • Diagnose problems and perform mechanical repair and maintenance to fleet equipment.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs using diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance such as lubricating, oil changes, and failure analysis.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, hydraulic, brakes, and steering problems related to the equipment and its components.
  • Perform all maintenance operations in accordance with technical specifications, safety, federal and state regulations.
  • Create work orders on repairs and services providing legible and accurate information. Input daily repair information in maintenance database.
  • Periodically inspect equipment and complete equipment inspection and reports.
  • Test fleet equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with safety, federal and state regulations.
  • Operate and inspect fleet equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
  • Schedule maintenance for fleet equipment and keep service records.
  • Read and understand operating manuals.
  • Overhaul and test equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Weld or solder broken parts and structural members using electric or gas welders and soldering tools.
  • Clean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent.
  • Rebuild or fabricate parts.
  • Comply with all environmental, health, and safety and training policies, procedures and requirements.
  • Keep work area and all tools, vehicles, and equipment neat, clean, and in good repair; clean work area at the end of every shift.
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
Competences
  • Excellent computer skills to perform computer diagnostics and to maintain service repair and maintenance records.
  • Analytical skills to identify and solve mechanical problems.
  • Sufficient level of education to understand oral and written instructions of a technical nature relating to products and equipment.
  • Must have the ability to read technical manuals and understand schematic diagrams.
  • Must have the ability to drive standard and automatic transmission trucks.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Candidate must be drug free.
  • Position requires moderately strenuous physical work.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds from floor to 3' – 5' occasionally.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds frequently.
  • Climb up and down ladders occasionally.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Use hands and fingers to examine, assemble, repair, and perform maintenance on aggregate or ready-mix equipment.
  • Travel safely while walking and operating trucks over uneven terrain, roads, and pavement.
  • See, hear, and respond to verbal, visual, and written instructions and to moving heavy construction machinery.
  • Wear proper protective equipment including hard hat, safety glasses, high visibility clothing, steel-toed boots, and gloves.
  • Observe all company Safety policies on company premises and while operating heavy construction machinery.
  • Continually work in extreme hot and cold weather conditions.
  • Work safely in wet, muddy, and slippery conditions occasionally.
  • Environment will vary from outdoors with varying noise levels and vibrations associated with construction equipment, and exposure to building materials, dust, and dirt at operating sites to a normal office environment.
