Job summary

FieldCore in Cambridge, MA, is seeking a Steam/Gas Mechanic to safely install, maintain, and repair heavy rotating machinery used in power generation. You will work with supervisors and EHS to meet goals and may take on additional duties to support FieldCore's vision and values.

Responsibilities include dismantling and assembling equipment with precision tools, reading blueprints, performing inspections, and performing welding/machining for parts.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year experience with machinery and industrial service equipment (pumps, motors, fans, generators, turbines).
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Preferred: Degree/Associate Degree in Technical Field or Gas Turbine Systems.

Responsibilities

• Dismantle, assemble, move and align machinery using hoists, cranes, tools, and laser alignment equipment.
• Read blueprints and technical docs to determine procedures.
• Handle shipping/receiving, inventory, and tool control for projects.
• Perform measurements with micrometers, calipers, and torque wrenches.
• Machining and welding to manufacture parts for lab and shop equipment.
• Prepare parts lists and purchase equipment as needed.
• Load, transport, and install machinery per layout plans.
• Install machinery according to drawings; work overtime as needed.

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Steam/Gas Mechanic is to safely accomplish the installation, maintenance and repair of the heavy rotating machinery used mainly in power generation applications. Turbine Mechanics work closely with Supervisors, EHS personnel, and the Operations Department to achieve these goals. You may be assigned other duties to help proactively drive our FieldCore vision and align with our organization’s core values.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Dismantle, assemble, move and align, machinery and equipment using: hoists, cranes, chain falls, hand tools, power tools, pneumatic and hydraulic tools, micrometers, rules, squares, plumb bobs, dial indicators and/or laser alignment equipment
• Read blueprints, schematic drawings and technical documentation to determine proper work procedures
• Responsible for shipping and receiving all major pieces for T&DC, plus all shipping, receiving, inventory, and control of tools, equipment and supplies
• Perform material and machine inspections using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, rules, calipers, protractors, and torque wrenches
• Perform machining and welding operations for making various parts for lab and shop training equipment
• Determine equipment specifications and prepare parts lists for purchasing, consisting of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic devices as needed to complete assigned projects
• Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment and supplies and perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repairs as needed
• Read blueprints, schematic drawings and technical documentation to determine proper work procedures
• Install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints and other drawings in industrial establishments
• Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Minimum of one (1) years’ experience maintaining, dismantling, and installing machinery and industrial service equipment including various pumps, motors, fans, generators, and turbines
• Valid Driver’s License
• Preferred: Degree/Associate Degree in Technical Field or Gas Turbine Systems

Desired Characteristics:

• Ability to disassemble and reassemble complex rotating equipment – Bolting, Hydraulic Bolting, Flange Management, Small Bore Piping, Basic Rigging/Lifting, O/H Crane Operator
• Proficient in the following: mechanical/technical skills, oral communications skills, Critical ThinkingManage time-sensitive tasks and maintain a schedule within operationally challenging environments.
• Must work well both independently and in a team environment.
