Your Impact

The focus of the maintenance team is to keep equipment in the RDC fully operational. The RDC Maintenance Mechanic I is a knowledgeable repair person with exposure to and experience with RDC systems and building components. This role requires specialist knowledge and complex repair skills in one of the following areas: conveyors, rolling stock, or building systems. Additionally, the individual should have general knowledge and basic repair skills in the other two areas. The Maintenance Mechanic I must have sufficient electrical and mechanical knowledge to safely and independently repair equipment in the RDC. They should be able to diagnose issues, plan and prioritize repairs, obtain spare parts, and execute repairs effectively. Mentoring Maintenance Utility staff and seeking guidance from senior mechanics or supervisors when necessary are also key responsibilities.

What You Will Do
  1. Maintain required certifications per regulations.
  2. Assess safety precautions for each task.
  3. Prepare worksite and perform lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  4. Gather tools and spare parts.
  5. Use tools safely and check their condition prior to use; wear PPE.
  6. Evaluate equipment condition, determine needed repairs, and recognize potential breakdowns.
  7. Plan and execute repair tasks.
  8. Mentor Maintenance Utility staff and seek assistance from experienced mechanics or supervisors when needed.
  9. Leave the worksite in good condition and return unused spare parts.
  10. Document work performed, spare parts used, and equipment condition.
  11. Enter data into the maintenance management system and close work orders.
  12. Inform the next shift of ongoing work and status of tasks.
  13. Communicate effectively with maintenance customers.
  14. Serve as an expert in two of the specialty areas: conveyors, rolling stock, or building systems.
  15. Diagnose, plan, and repair complex failures within specialty areas with minimal guidance.
  16. Perform basic repairs outside of specialty areas.
  17. Participate in ongoing training to enhance skills and knowledge of various maintenance systems.
  18. Perform additional duties as assigned, including assisting with battery changes and providing training.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED, or technical school graduate, with 1-2 years of experience in the relevant specialty area.
  • Experience and/or training in electrical/electronic systems up to 600 volts (or willingness to obtain training within 1 year).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Certification to perform work at the maintenance mechanic level if required by local regulations.
Preferred Skills/Education
  • Welding and fabrication certification or experience.
  • Experience operating maintenance and material handling vehicles.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Electrical work certification, especially for high voltage systems.
