What You’ll do

The Mechanic I oversees the small engine repair shop, including tractors when applicable. Responsibilities include managing work orders, equipment servicing and repairs, ordering parts, and handling warranty claims.

  • Provide exceptional customer service with timely, high-quality onsite repairs.
  • Enforce safety protocols for equipment and tools.
  • Handle, store, and dispose of hazardous materials lawfully.
  • Complete warranty paperwork promptly per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed.
  • Keep the shop environment safe, clean, and organized.
  • Manage special order parts for work orders.
  • Perform service tasks safely and according to specifications.
  • Use computer systems for parts identification, troubleshooting, documentation, ordering, and claims processing.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on customer and company machines.
  • Assist with loading and unloading machines for repairs and deliveries.
  • Interpret manuals, diagrams, blueprints, and drawings.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and team members.
  • Update work status regularly and plan upcoming tasks.
  • Engage in cross-training and participate in learning initiatives.
  • Support others proactively and professionally, embodying Rural King’s values: People First, Integrity, Attitude, Initiative, Teamwork, Accountability, and Continuous Improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualities for Success

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in small engine, diesel, and hydraulic repairs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and in-store technology (CRM, diagnostic tools, barcode systems, wireless devices).
  • Ability to work independently.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods.
  • Lift, push, or pull at least 30 pounds repeatedly and up to 50 pounds intermittently.
  • Navigate all facilities comfortably.
  • Communicate effectively in person and electronically.
  • Good vision for computer tasks.
