Position: MECHANIC I (Full Time)

Location: Canteen – 1231 Rockland Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24012

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Pay Range: $19.00 – $21.00 per hour

Preferred experience: previous general maintenance experience.

Job Summary

Operate and maintain all equipment, including HVAC systems, high‑pressure boilers, generators, and steam equipment. Read and record information from meters and gauges at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide quality customer service and detailed attention.
• Respond to dispatch calls for machine repairs using company vehicle.
• Call existing customers to determine adequacy of service; listen to and resolve service complaints.
• Visually inspect and listen to machines to identify causes of malfunctions; dismantle machines to gain access to problem area.
• Inspect parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems; remove and replace worn or defective parts; repair broken parts; realign and adjust components; test machine operation following repair.
• Review inventory and order parts; ship and receive machines and equipment; maintain equipment inventory.
• Set up and operate mechanical equipment and small hand tools (e.g., drills, grinders, welding torches) for machine and equipment repair.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment; perform job safely.
• Consistently demonstrate support of the department by striving for excellence.
• Contribute to the team; exhibit professionalism with customers, fellow employees, and others.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
