Overview
Global- a 1st Flagship Company, a woman-owned small business, provides Marine Support Services and Emergency Management. We have served as the Department of Navy's trusted Prime Contractor since 1964, managing the U.S. Navy Inactive Ship fleet across locations including Norfolk, Philadelphia, Bremerton, California, and Hawaii. We are seeking a Mechanic I at our Philadelphia site.
What You'll Be Doing
- Operate machines and hand tools to perform repairs efficiently and economically.
- Diagnose mechanical issues by applying knowledge of machine and mechanical principles and locating causes of breakdowns.
- Use hand tools and measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges).
- Read blueprints and manufacturers\' specifications to disassemble and repair tools and equipment.
- Instruct Machinist/Mechanic Helper when assigned.
- Qualify to wear a respirator if required.
- Travel up to 25% to conduct company business.
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to environmental protection.
- Assist in the receipt, mooring, and departure of vessels.
- Adhere to corporate core values, policies, and procedures in all responsibilities.
- Work effectively with co-workers in a professional manner at all times.
- Be available to work overtime if required.
- Assess and manage exposure to hazards such as sharp edges, chemicals, poor illumination, and inclement weather.
- Handle weights up to 100 pounds, with an average of 50 pounds, and carry up to 200 feet.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Five (5) years of relevant shipboard machinist/mechanic experience or equivalent military experience
- Valid driver's license and qualification to operate government/company vehicles per the Corporate Fleet Vehicle Safety Manual
Preferred:
- Four (4) years of experience serving in a Navy Engineering rating or Armed Forces Diesel Engine Repair Military Occupational Specialty (MOS)
