City of Moline seeks a Mechanic I to keep the city’s fleet safe and reliable. You’ll diagnose, maintain, and repair a wide range of vehicles and equipment— from police units to heavy-duty apparatus— and document work in the fleet system.
You’ll perform preventive maintenance, assist senior mechanics, respond to road calls, and ensure safety, quality, and clear communication across shifts. A CDL and DOT certs are part of the role; join a team dedicated to service and upholding standards.

As a Mechanic I, you'll play a key part in keeping the City's diverse fleet safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community by diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of vehicles and equipment -- from passenger cars and police units to heavy-duty and specialized apparatus. You'll perform preventative maintenance and inspections, support more complex repairs alongside senior mechanics, respond to road calls, and ensure accurate documentation of all work in the fleet management system. Through your attention to safety, willingness to learn, and commitment to clear communication, you'll help maximize fleet uptime, support essential City services, and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing Fleet Services operation.

While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to walk, stand, and sit; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and make fine adjustments; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently exposed to dust, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock; and occasionally exposed to wet, humid, cold, and varied weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
AFSCME employees shall live within a 20-mile radius from the City's Emergency Center, located at 1630 8th Avenue in Moline, within 180 days of hire.
