Job summary

Aptar Pharma, a division of Aptar Group, Congers, NY, is seeking a Mechanic 1 to maintain production equipment, perform preventive maintenance, set-ups, and support line operations.

You will assist senior mechanics, read diagrams, follow GMP, and contribute to a safe, clean environment while meeting quality standards. Candidates should have at least 3 years manufacturing experience and be able to lift up to 35 pounds. Willingness to gown for clean rooms and extended hours is required.

Qualifications

• Experience with pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
• Proficient with SAP and MS Office.
• Ability to read pneumatic and mechanical blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Control downtime by performing routine preventive maintenance and monitoring operation.
• Maintain machinery via preventive maintenance on conveyors, hydraulics, and production lines.
• Report issues to lead mechanics and supervision.
• Read diagrams and use measuring/testing instruments to locate problems.
• Document repairs and interventions accurately.
• Maintain safe, clean work environment and observe safety rules.
• Set up equipment and perform changeovers.
• Train new employees and operators as directed.
• Manage supplies and accommodate extended hours when required.

Working Location: Congers, NY

Primary Purpose Summary

Mechanic 1 is responsible for proper upkeep of production and support equipment. Perform preventive maintenance, set‑ups, tend the production lines, and provide basic problem‑solving skills. Assist senior mechanics and report all problems to Supervisors, Quality Personnel, and Assembly Technicians.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Control downtime by performing routine preventive maintenance and monitoring operation.
• Ensure operation of machinery by performing preventive maintenance on conveyor systems and production machines, hydraulic systems, following diagrams, sketches, operating manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, engineering specifications, and ability to understand mechanical drawings.
• Report poor operating conditions or high reject levels to lead mechanics and/or supervision.
• Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems, and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
• Follow proper procedures; report and document all repairs and interventions accurately.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with company procedures.
• Maintain product quality standards and specifications by observing operations, detecting malfunctions, inspecting parts, and replacing tooling.
• Set‑up production equipment by completing equipment changeovers.
• Train new employees, operators, and junior mechanics on manufacturing techniques and procedures as directed by supervision.
• Maintain supplies by checking stock and requesting supplies.
• Flexibility to accommodate extended hours of work as per business requirement.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma, technical school education, or related experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Basic math skills.
• Experience working with pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
• Good computer skills utilizing SAP and MS Office.

• Physically capable of the required work, including extensive use of manual dexterity, ability to grip, firmly hold, turn, and practice strong hand coordination to troubleshoot, service, and repair industrial equipment and use hand tools.
• Understands and practices safe working procedures.
• Observes safety rules and policies; brings to management’s attention any unsafe acts or conditions.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Basic knowledge of tools for machine intervention.
• Basic understanding of production line mechanics and troubleshooting.
• Able to communicate clearly with support staff.
• Willing to gown for the purpose of entering clean rooms.
• Willing to use required personal protective equipment (PPE) while satisfying all work requests.
• Ability to recognize and abate safety hazards.

Compensation and Base Annual Pay

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is USD $28 to USD $38 per hour. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary; the final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
