Job summary

EMR USA Metal Recycling in Dallas, TX seeks a Mechanical Helper to support maintenance, inspection, and repair of conveyors, gearboxes, motors, pumps, valves, and other industrial equipment at our fast-paced facility. Works with fabrication, welding, and preventive maintenance, reading blueprints and using measuring tools; must be comfortable outdoors and following OSHA safety rules.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years industrial maintenance experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure and interpret blueprints.
  • Experience operating hand tools, power tools, and specialized maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of industrial maintenance practices and equipment.
  • Experience with rigging and mobile equipment operation preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, telehandlers, scissor lifts, and high-reach equipment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and industry safety standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair conveyors, gearboxes, motors, pumps, valves, and other industrial equipment.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and identify faulty or worn components.
  • Perform routine greasing and preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Read blueprints and use measuring tools to ensure completed work meets required tolerances.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, cutting torches, welders, and other specialized equipment.
  • Assist with fabricating and assembling metal structures, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Perform small repairs using grinders, cutting torches, and welding equipment.
  • Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion.
  • Preheat workpieces before welding or bending when necessary.
  • Follow all required safety procedures, including LOTO, rigging, and confined space procedures.
  • Attend daily shift meetings to prioritize work orders and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Safely operate mobile equipment such as telehandlers, scissor lifts, high-reach equipment, and forklifts.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance reports and daily activity logs.
  • Participate in ongoing training and technical development to improve mechanical knowledge.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and clutter-free work area at the end of each shift.
  • Complete all work safely and in accordance with company policies and OSHA requirements.

We are looking for a Mechanical Helper to join our team at a fast‑paced metals recycling facility in Dallas, TX. This role will assist with the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial equipment, including conveyors, motors, pumps, valves, gearboxes, and metal separation equipment. The Maintenance Helper will perform preventive maintenance, assist with fabrication and welding projects, and help ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational while minimizing downtime.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is performed primarily outdoors and may require working in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and other environmental conditions. Employees are required to wear appropriate PPE, including:

  • Durable work pants
  • High‑visibility vest
  • Hearing protection and additional PPE as required

The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and working around industrial equipment. Employees may be required to work in confined spaces and wear a respirator when necessary.
