Job Summary

Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventative maintenance on the entire turf equipment fleet, including golf course mowers, tractors, specialty equipment and a fleet of 55 electric golf carts. Maintain a high quality of cut and consistency among all mowers.

Minimum Requirements

Experience, Education, and Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent

OR

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,

AND

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Preferred

  • Use of Microsoft office including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • A working knowledge of the theory, care and operation of all gas, diesel, electric and two-cycle powered golf course turf maintenance equipment. This equipment may include, but not limited to, electric golf vehicles, carts, cutting units for all golf course surfaces, tractors as well as specialty fringe equipment.
  • Rainbird Cirrus irrigation control.
  • Welding equipment for repairs and fabrication, along with other specialty tools specific to our industry
  • Ability to inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical defects and failures in various golf course maintenance equipment.
  • Working knowledge of mower set up specific to the industry, and maintain sharp, accurately set cutting units of specific height to ensure a high quality of cut as well as consistency throughout the fleet.
  • Ability to operate specialty equipment repair tools, and technical experience for making
  • mechanical repairs. Ability to multi-task, remain flexible and adjust to rapidly changing course equipment requirements and needs.
  • Create and adhere to a preventative maintenance program on all equipment and maintains an accurate set of records for equipment repairs and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of the game of golf and provide spot checks of equipment on the course to ensure equipment is providing the best course conditions possible.

Travel

  • Approximately 10% flexible, local travel required.

Essential Functions

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain Equipment, diagnose issues and repair as needed. Perform general maintenance on all golf equipment and electric golf cart fleet including preventative maintenance services, repairs, adjustments, safety inspections, troubleshooting as well as reel grinding and welding.
  • Purchase parts and inventory items to repair/maintain golf course equipment. Monitor fuel/oil levels and make purchases as needed.
  • Perform accurate record keeping, orders and budget management.
  • Golf cart fleet maintenance and management. Oversee part-time golf cart maintenance personnel. Frequent interaction with pro shop to communicate needs, repair times and fleet availability.
  • Assist with golf course activities such as mowing, rolling greens, course set-up, debris removal, fertilization and aerification practices.
  • Works alternating weekends to provide oversight to ensure weekend course prep meets course condition standards.
  • Coordinate equipment needs between both golf courses as well as between different City
  • departments.
  • Facilitate in the transportation and delivery of equipment to meet changing needs throughout the year.
  • Communicate equipment needs, status on repairs and budget.
  • Discuss daily about upcoming maintenance plans, equipment needs and course priorities. Order repair parts. Commonly, seek out multiple parts prices when applicable to ensure best value.
  • Coordinate warranty repairs and equipment replacements as needed.
  • Seek council for troubleshooting equipment to ensure efficient repair and return to service.
  • Coordinating maintenance schedule for truck, tractor and skid steer equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is used in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Assist with employee training as needed.
  • Communicate proper preventative measures including fluid checks, tire pressure checks and post operation cleaning.
  • Problem solving and decision making: Incumbent is expected to solve a variety of problems in situations where there are substantially diversified procedures, specialized standards and only limited standardization.
  • Requires reasoning to produce a practical course of action within the established process.
  • Choices fall within the range of specified, acceptable standards, alternatives and technical practices.
  • Example(s): PossessThe knowledge to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair a large variety of industry specific equipment.
  • Ability to think outside the box and find creative solutions.
  • The ability to multi-task, remain flexible and prioritize course needs in an ever-changing
  • environment.
  • Use knowledge, experience and skills to efficiently address a wide variety of potential breakdowns and issues.
  • Self-driven, motivated with the ability to self-manage with the desire to maintain equipment at the highest level possible.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  • Need to be able to work in outdoor conditions year-round when required
  • Marginal to moderate hazards that are typically predictable or well protected against
  • Exposure to power tools and welding equipment. Reel grinding and maintenance of sharp objects.
  • Requirement to work under equipment supported by a lift system.
  • Exposure to much equipment related chemicals including fuel, oil as well as various fluids and cleaning products

Physical Requirements

  • Strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.
  • Example(s): Frequent demand to lift equipment over 50 pounds.
  • Requirement to work in tight, awkward positions for an extended amount of time.
  • Use of heavy, industry specific tools. Requirement to stand or remain on feet for an extended amount of time.
