Mechanic - Fleet Maintenance - 103, San Antonio

Description

Responsible for diagnosing and repairing mechanical failures of revenue buses, paratransit vehicles, cars, trucks, plant facilities, and related equipment both on and off VIA property. Conducts preventive maintenance inspections to ensure mechanical integrity. Designs and fabricates structures and equipment related to vehicle repair or services.

Essential Functions

  • Performs skilled work in vehicle maintenance, plant facilities, and equipment repair.
  • Assists the Foreman and performs duties in their absence.
  • Works under supervision as a Shop Helper.

Education and Experience

Must be able to read and write English, perform basic math, and have relevant training and experience. Shop Repairman and Leaders need experience in their specialized fields. Shop Helpers require at least three years of verifiable mechanic work, a trade school certificate, or completion of VIA's training program.

Additional Requirements

  • Must furnish own hand tools.
  • Ability to operate and drive various vehicles and equipment safely.
  • Must be certified as a State Safety Vehicle Inspector and obtain a Texas CDL (Class-B) before completing probation.
  • Ability to read, understand, and maintain records.
