Job summary

The Timken Company’s Smith Services division is seeking a Mechanic/Fabricator to support operations at the Princeton, WV site. This dayshift role requires hands-on labor in disassembly, evaluation, assembly, testing and shipping of power transmission systems and related equipment.

Responsibilities include following drawings and customer specifications, ensuring quality for the test panel, and collaborating with engineering to resolve issues. Overtime may be required to meet production targets.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in multiple craft skills needed to repair and manufacture mechanical and rotating equipment.
  • Proficient use of calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators to measure tolerances as tight as .0005.
  • Must be proficient in the care and handling, installation, adjustment, lubrication and maintenance of anti-friction bearings.
  • Applicant must have both verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must have mathematical skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals, along with ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have 5 years of Mechanical experience.
  • Must have 3-5 years of Welding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Disassembly, evaluation, assembly, testing and shipping of power transmission systems, machinery, piping and pump systems.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Purchasing, Quality and Engineering to address assembly/test issues.
  • Provide feedback to Engineering on discrepancies to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Assemble, test, disassemble, inspect and paint electric motors and enclosed drive gearboxes.
  • Follow customer specifications during assembly duties.
  • Ensure quality of all work sent to the test panel.
  • Complete related paperwork accurately and thoroughly.
  • Interpret drawings, sketches, and geometric tolerancing and repair manuals.
  • Provide feedback on discrepancies to preclude recurrence.
  • Work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed to meet production demands.

Smith Services is currently seeking a Mechanic/Fabricator to support operations at the Princeton, WV site. This is a Dayshift position.

The Gearbox Mechanic performs labor activities in the disassembly, evaluation, assembly, testing and shipping process of power transmission systems, machinery, piping and pump systems. The scope of this position is the Smith Services service center.

Responsibilities

The Mechanic will work with Customer Service, Purchasing, Quality and Engineering to ensure that assembly/test problems are addressed and quickly resolved. Employee provides feedback to Engineering on assembly/test discrepancies, drawing errors, quality errors, etc. to preclude reoccurrence.

Duties Include
  • Mechanic is responsible for the assembly, testing, disassembly, inspection and painting of electric motors and enclosed drive gearboxes
  • Various assembly duties while following customer specifications.
  • Ensure the quality of all work sent to the test panel.
  • Complete all related paperwork accurately and thoroughly.
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand and utilize drawings, sketches, and geometric dimensioning, tolerances, and repair manuals.
  • Providing feedback to engineering on assembly/test discrepancies, drawing errors, quality errors, etc. in an effort to resolve problems and prevent reoccurrences.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet production demands is required.
