Job summary

Port Houston is seeking an experienced Maintenance Mechanic to ensure the reliability of our container handling equipment and support systems at Barbours Cut Maintenance. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain yard trucks, chassis, forklifts, and related machinery.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and 4+ years of mechanical experience, with strong safety awareness and teamwork. Texas driver’s license and TWIC are preferred. Port Houston offers competitive pay and benefits.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment including container handling units, yard tractors, forklifts, vehicles, and chassis.
• Diagnose and repair components such as gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, and compressors.
• Enter and retrieve information using diagnostic tools.
• Provide cost estimates for equipment repairs and work orders.
• Use hand tools, hoists, gauges, drills, and grinding wheels to perform tasks.
• Remove and replace transmissions, engines, brakes, suspensions, exhaust, and electrical systems on yard trucks and chassis.
• Read factory manuals and blueprints to complete assignments.
• Coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules; delegate tasks to staff.
• Work overtime as required by Port Houston operations.

Position Summary:

Troubleshoots, repairs, and conducts preventative maintenance on Port Houston equipment and supporting equipment.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

• Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment or machinery including but not limited to container handling units, yard tractors, forklifts, vehicles and terminal chassis.
• Diagnose and repair component parts of machinery including gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, compressors and other related parts; diagnose and repair chassis components and systems, brakes, pneumatic, suspension, and alignment
• Utilize computer or diagnostic tools to enter and retrieve information
• Provide cost estimates for repairs to equipment and machinery including engine overhaul, body repair and work order requests
• Use hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels, and other tools proficiently to carry out assigned tasks
• For yard truck and chassis repair, remove, repair and replace transmissions, engines, brakes, suspensions, exhaust, fuel, cooling and electrical systems
• Read and use factory manuals and blueprints as required to fulfill job assignments.
• Coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules and delegate work duties to subordinate staff
• Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hours
• Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor

• Perform other duties as required Education/Experience:
• High School diploma or GED equivalent required
• 4+ years related mechanic experience required
