Keolis Transit America in Tempe, AZ seeks a skilled Heavy Equipment Maintenance Mechanic to service and repair transit coaches. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose issues, and assist other technicians while ensuring safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections on coaches following vehicle checklists.
  • Diagnose and repair minor coach problems; assist other mechanics as needed.
  • Review repair manuals and part manuals to aid in small repairs.
  • Inspect and verify problems on coaches using diagnostic equipment.
  • Test coaches for proper working order including road tests.
  • Fill out work orders detailing parts and labor and keep work area clean.

Job description

  • One (1) year progressive heavy equipment maintenance required
  • Entry level understanding of all systems onboard the fleet transportation vehicles
  • Component/System understanding: Air Conditioning, Brakes, Engine, Transmission, Suspension and Steering, Electrical, Fuel, Lubrication, and Differentials
  • Understanding all Preventive Maintenance Procedures: A, B, C
  • Knowledge and use of proper safety equipment at all time
  • Additional training from mechanical/technical schools, courses or seminars desirable
  • High School diploma or GED Driver’s license required
  • Experience with diagnostic computer equipment required
  • Must have a basic understanding of the design, adjustment, overhaul of medium to heavy duty braking systems
  • Must be able to work amid constant interruptions, have ability to prioritize and be detail oriented
  • Must have good communication skills, ability to both verbally and in written format document questions and diagnostic information to management personnel
  • Must be able to perform physical activities including working on top of coaches and lifting up to seventy-five (75) pounds
  • Must be flexible and work in a 24/7 environment
  • Must be able to obtain a CA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B with passenger endorsement
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test

Key Accountabilities:
  • The mechanic C performs preventative maintenance inspections, diagnoses and repairs minor coach problems; assists other mechanics, helps to ensure a work environment that meets safety and regulatory standards for Keolis Transit North America.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections on all types and classes of coaches following vehicle specific check lists.
  • Preventative maintenance inspections are based in mileage and days.
  • Reviews repair manuals and part manuals for aid in making minor repairs.
  • Inspections and repairs include but are not limited to; ADA equipment, articulate joint, brakes, chassis, cooling system, engine, interior/exterior lighting, gauges and controls, safety equipment, fire extinguishers and sensitive edges, tires and transmissions.
  • Must have computer skills for the ability to diagnose all sub-components of a Transit coach.
  • Inspects and verifies problems on coaches using various diagnostic equipment.
  • Cleans, repairs and replaces coach equipment as required under supervision from mechanic A and B.
  • Test coaches for proper working order including road driving tests.
  • Fills out work orders specifying parts and labor.
  • Assists mechanic A and mechanic B with repair work.
  • Sweeps and cleans work area, general housekeeping, disposes of waste products into proper containment, ensures safe work environment.

  • Operators/Drivers may work inside or outside vehicles and may operate vehicles for over 8 hours per day.
  • Operations Supervisors and Managers may split their work between an office setting looking at a computer screen/electronic device and active transit field locations driving in a vehicle.
  • Maintenance Employees may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals in a ventilated maintenance shop and may work with personal computers, laptops, electronic hand-held devices, complex electrical schematics, diagnostic software and testing devices, and other heavy machinery.
  • Office Staff may work indoors in air-conditioned or well-ventilated facilities, including offices and cubicle spaces equipped with a telephone and computer and may entail typing or looking at a computer screen.
