Job summary

Stepan Company, located in Elwood, New York, is seeking a skilled individual for a technical support role to provide electrical, electronic, mechanical, and technical assistance to ensure stable operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide electrical, electronic, mechanical and technical support to production areas to ensure stable operations and continuous improvement, while promoting safe work practices.
• Perform field calibration of process instrumentation.
• Complete the installation of new instrumentation, controls and power wiring systems including conduit.
• Configure and program process instrumentation and VFDs (variable frequency drives).
• Perform chemical line breaks per procedures including flange joint assembly.
• Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment to determine repair process.
• Navigate CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) and write follow‑up work orders.
• Train with an experienced journeyman to augment the first six months of the apprentice program.
• Support all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations.
• Perform general housekeeping duties as assigned by the E&I Maintenance Execution Manager.
• Participate in and maintain compliance‑related activities including internal and external audits for applicable standards and certifications such as ISO 9001:2015, EFfCI, FSSC 22000, Kosher, Halal, RSPO, ISCC+ and others.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of mechanical experience or preferred education.
• Successfully pass a mechanical aptitude test.
• Successfully complete six required maintenance apprenticeship courses within three years.
• Experience with control circuits, PLC logic, and instrumentation calibration is preferred.
• Ability to analyze, problem‑solve, and think strategically to resolve equipment issues and determine root‑cause failures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
