Job summary

Global Medical Response in Burlingame, CA is seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair AMR vehicle fleets. Under the supervision of the Fleet Supervisor, you will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose electrical and engine issues, and ensure safety standards are met.

Responsibilities include brake and drive train service, gurney maintenance, road calls, tool upkeep, and accurate recordkeeping.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; 18+ years old; 3+ years fleet maintenance experience.
  • Strong electrical diagnosis and repair background.
  • Knowledge of diesel & gas engines; CA driver’s license.
  • ASE and EVT certification preferred.
  • Good communication and customer service; safe work practices.

$48.58 hourly

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Fleet Supervisor, the Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all company vehicles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complete preventative maintenance service on all AMR vehicles.
  • Perform service, repairs and adjustments to all components of AMR vehicles, including engines, transmissions, differential units, generators, hydraulic and electrical systems. A/C (air-conditioning) and cooling system.
  • Handle all phases of brake diagnosis and repair. Operate brake drum lathe, grinder, drill press, and grease gun.
  • Perform front end repairs.
  • Provide accurate diagnosis of drive train.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of gurneys.
  • Respond to road service calls.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures. All reasonable rules and regulations published and/or accepted as common practice, including safety equipment, tool use and care, and recordkeeping.
  • Must be willing to work a variety of shifts if necessary.
  • Follow Information Systems security policies and procedures, attend training when offered, and report information systems security problems.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 18 years of age. At least three years of Fleet Maintenance and repair experience. Strong electrical diagnosis and repair background. Basic knowledge of diagnosis and repair of diesel & gas engines. Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to provide good customer service. California Driver's License and driving record in compliance with AMR policy regarding insurability. ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) & EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification is preferred. Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment and standard practices used to maintain a fleet of vehicles in a safe manner. Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions followed in heavy equipment repair shops. Ability to safely operate motor vehicles, an assortment of hand and power tools and other work-related equipment. Must have and maintain the required tools, including a rollaway tool box, to perform all duties.

Physical Requirements

Occasionally: Must lift and/or move items such as tools or vehicle parts that weigh up to 75 pounds, either manually or with a dolly or forklift. Items may be carried up to 200 yards.

Frequently: Working in shop environment in and around motor vehicles and equipment.

Mental Requirements

Occasionally: Complex reading and writing, memorization, high math skills.

Frequently: Simple reading and writing, problem solving, judgment, reasoning, decision making.

Constantly: Analyzing, perception/computation, complex math skills. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must know and follow safe maintenance procedures and safe driving practices.

Working Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The work hours could be anywhere between 4:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., Monday through Saturday. Some work may be required on Sunday. Work hours and days are subject to change. Employees work on a shift schedule.

Most work is completed inside or outside the maintenance building where there may be noise from vehicles, tools or employee conversations. Work is also completed off-site either inside or outside a vehicle while making repairs or transporting the vehicle. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee walks on uneven ground or surfaces and works at heights above three feet.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee uses hand and power tools and operates vehicles such as ambulances, passenger cars, forklifts, and yard carts. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, vapors, airborne particles and exhaust smoke, dust and dirt, toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally is exposed to risk of electrical shock.

The Mechanic classification is considered to be a safety sensitive position under the drug and alcohol testing programs. Therefore, the employee is subject to substance abuse testing.
