Job summary

Penhall Company is seeking a Mechanic Assistant to support shop operations and assist senior mechanics with maintenance and repair of vehicles, tools, and equipment. The entry-level role focuses on light to medium mechanical work and servicing a fleet of Ford F-series construction vehicles.

The position requires safety-minded individuals able to lift up to 50 pounds, work early mornings and some weekends, and communicate clearly with field operators.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2-3 years in maintenance or shop setting preferred.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe working environment while ensuring equipment readiness.
• Troubleshoot and perform light to medium repairs on Ford F550 Diesel Service trucks.
• Repair and fabricate equipment with basic MIG welding and silver solder brazing.
• Interact with field operators as a technical advisor on equipment safety.
• Perform additional assignments as directed by foreman or supervisor.

Penhall Company has an immediate opening for a full time Mechanic Assistant to join our team! Great work environment!!

Job Summary

The Mechanic Assistant supports shop operations by assisting senior mechanics with maintenance and repair of vehicles, tools, and equipment. The ideal person will perform light to medium mechanical work, servicing & maintaining a fleet of 2020 & newer Ford F series construction vehicles. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals with basic mechanical knowledge who are motivated to learn and grow in a hands‑on environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe working environment while providing quality work standards & equipment readiness.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform light to medium duty repairs to a fleet of Ford F550 Diesel Service trucks.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair a fleet of Gas, Diesel & electric concrete cutting saws and core drilling equipment.
• Repair and fabrication of equipment, performing basic MIG welding and silver solder brazing techniques.
• Interact with field operators as a technical expert and adviser with equipment & how to tag it out of service due to Safety & mechanical issues.
• Perform additional assignments as requested by your foreman/supervisor.
• Diagnose, repair and maintain specialty gas & diesel small engine equipment as well as a fleet of Gas, diesel & electric concrete saws.

Position Requirements

• Must be safety oriented in all aspects while repairs are in process. Wear proper PPE while performing repairs Safety Glasses, ear plugs (when Noisy) dust mask, gloves etc.
• 2-3 years' experience working with Light, Heavy Vehicle & industrial construction equipment and trailers.
• Previous experience working with diesel engines, electrical and hydraulic repairs.
• Experienced in basic oxy acetylene, plasma cutting & MIG welding.
• Must possess practical knowledge of the function, operation, and maintenance of vehicle & construction equipment.
• Work in inclement weather Heat, Rain, Cold dealing with repairs in the field and our repair facility.
• Ability to work days & some extended hours if asked. Possible Saturday if needed.
• Strong sense of urgency with a focus on quality and safety.
• Physical exertion required. Including, but not limited to, walking, standing, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to effectively communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Experience in servicing & maintaining newer Peterbilt Truck, Equipment Trailers and some specialty equipment.

• Valid driver's license and insurable driving record preferred.

Physical and Additional Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical labor for extended periods.
• Must be available to work early mornings, weekends, or extended hours when required.
• May be required to travel local or regionally for field service support.
