Purpose of your Position - Non Union

Classification Summary - Union

A Mechanic Apprentice assists experienced mechanics in repairing and maintaining heavy-duty
machinery and vehicles, including trucks, light-duty cars and trucks, construction equipment, and
agricultural machinery. This role combines on-the-job training with technical instruction to develop skillsin diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical and electrical systems.

Duties - Union

  • Assist experienced mechanics in inspecting and diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on heavy-duty equipment.
  • Learn to repair and replace defective parts in municipal vehicles and machinery, including light duty cars, trucks, and construction equipment.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks under supervision, ensuring all equipment operates efficiently and safely.
  • Use computerized diagnostic equipment to identify issues and assist in troubleshooting.
  • Interpret technical manuals and schematics to troubleshoot problems.
  • Operate and maintain various shop tools and equipment, including hoists, jacks, and welding
  • equipment.
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs and maintenance performed.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Participate in safety training and adhere to occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Participate in classroom instruction covering technical aspects such as hydraulics, electrical systems, engine repair, and safety protocols.
