Job summary

Cacique Foods, LLC. is seeking a skilled Mechanic A to maintain and troubleshoot automation and packaging systems in a dairy facility. You will read schematics, perform preventative maintenance, and implement improvements across PLC/HMI control processes.

The role emphasizes safety, GMP/HACCP compliance, and collaboration with production and quality teams. The ideal candidate has substantial experience with pumps, valves, and electrical systems, plus welding skills and the ability to mentor

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; advanced tech certs are a plus.
  • 7+ years maintaining/repairing a variety of technical equipment; dairy experience preferred.
  • Inspect equipment, identify issues, and take corrective action to prevent downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and overhaul pumps and process valves.
  • Read ladder logic and use PLCs for troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and control systems.
  • Basic welding capability.
  • Advanced math skills preferred.
  • Program field devices and tune PID loops.
  • Strong Ethernet and industrial interface communication skills.
  • Proficient with electrical meters and training others on their use.
  • Proficient in laser alignment tools.

Responsibilities

  • Read, analyze and interpret procedures, schematics, manuals and work orders.
  • Perform preventative maintenance with computerized checks and SPC data.
  • Improve PLC/HMI control processes and logic as needed.
  • Complete work orders timely with high quality standards.
  • Use hand/power tools, meters and handling equipment to perform duties.
  • Train and develop junior mechanics or apprentices.
  • Document all required SOP information clearly and accurately.
  • Identify process improvements using continuous improvement mindset.
  • Follow lockout/tagout, GMP, HACCP and safety procedures.
  • Troubleshoot/repair PLCs and micro switches in high-speed packaging equipment.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams.
  • Familiarity with FDA/USDA and other food safety regulations.

Job description

SUMMARY:Mechanic A is a subject matter expert in automation or industrial processes. The expectations of this role will require a detailed understanding and application of all machinery in process and packaging operations within the facility. This role requires the ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electronic, and PLC analog/digital input and output components.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Perform preventative maintenance conducting computerized preventative maintenance check-ups or reading statistical process control (SPC) charts and data
  • Ability to make programming improvements on our controls process programable logic controller (PLC) human machine interfacing (HMI)
  • Complete work orders in a timely manner, maintaining high quality standards.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Train and develop junior level mechanics or those in apprenticeship programs
  • Ensure all paperwork is filled out in a clear, legible, and accurate format, and completed with the required information. Ensure all required information is documented in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Utilizing continuous improvement mindset, assisting in identifying opportunities to improve processes.
  • Follow all required work safe practices, including but not limited to: Lockout-tag out requirements and wearing of all required Personal Protective Equipment in designated areas, confined space safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safe chemical handling and fall restraints.
  • Troubleshoot repair or replace trouble shoot programable logic controller (PLC’s) & micro switches, in relationship to high-speed packaging equipment.
  • Collaborating with production and quality teams
  • Familiarity with Food Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Department Agriculture (USDA)and other food safety regulations
  • Proficient in Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and sanitation protocols
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree required. Advanced Technology Certification and or Competency Based Education (SACA) Smart Automation Credential Alliance
  • Minimum (7) years' experience maintaining/repairing a variety of technical equipment and machines. Experience in dairy required
  • Able to inspect equipment, identify potential issues, and take corrective action to prevent failures or downtime.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and overhauling pumps and process valves.
  • Proficient in reading ladder logic and utilizing PLCs for troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and control systems
  • Ability to do basic welding
  • Advanced math skills preferred
  • Skilled in programming field component devices and adjusting proportional integral derivative (PID) loops.
  • Strong understanding of Ethernet and Artificial Systems-Interface communication
  • Proficient at using and training other technicians on all types of electrical meters.
  • Proficient in laser alignment tools.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIORNMENT:
  • Required to maneuver plant and warehouse workspaces which involve:
  • Frequently standing, walking, sitting, talking, or hearing, work around loud machinery and moving parts.
  • Continually utilize hand and finger dexterity, exposed to extreme heat, extreme cold, wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather).
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds safely.
