Purpose

The mechanic position is responsible for preventative maintenance as well as diagnosing and repair of aggregate plant processing equipment, ready‑mix concrete trucks, and other equipment. Additionally, you may perform various roles, including fabrication, welding, cutting, greasing, housekeeping and various other shop or processing duties.

Essential Functions
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on vehicles and machinery.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and manuals.
  • Replace and repair worn‑out parts, such as brakes, tires, and belts.
  • Conduct system checks on engine, transmission, exhaust, suspension, and other vehicle systems.
  • Perform electrical diagnostics and repairs, including replacing batteries, alternators, and other electrical components.
  • Ensure that all tools and equipment are maintained in good working condition.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, new technologies, and vehicle systems.
  • Adhere to safety standards and protocols while working in the shop or on site.
  • Maximize performance of stationary equipment by performing repairs and ensuring preventative maintenance is completed on a timely basis.
  • Perform fabrication, erection of processing equipment and repair to processing equipment.
  • Complete required paperwork to maintain equipment and to run the plant according to BTC standards.
  • Perform duties that may include checking, repairing, or replacing pumps.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance services, lubrications services are completed according to Maintenance Module.
  • Train and coach other employees on maintenance practices.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must have working knowledge of heavy equipment, welding, cutting, and general mechanics.
  • Punctual and reliable; good attendance required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Team‑player.
  • Self‑motivated and eager to learn new skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Physical stamina and ability to work in a shop environment.
Qualifications
  • Education: High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience: 3+ years’ experience working with plant equipment is preferred, particularly in an aggregate’s operation.
  • Proven experience as a mechanic, with expertise in repairing and maintaining a wide range of vehicles or machinery.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • May require weekend or evening work depending on business needs.
