Job summary

Henkels & McCoy West is seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to perform field-based diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on utility fleet equipment and vehicles. This role includes aerial devices (bucket trucks), digger derricks, and other specialized electrical line work gear, with independent work on active job sites.

The position requires experience with hydraulic and electrical systems, ANSI/DOT compliance, and ability to travel up to 75% or work from the yard as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; diesel/heavy repair certification preferred.
  • 3+ years as a mechanic for utilities, construction, or fleet vehicles.
  • Valid Class A license or willing to obtain one.
  • Experience with aerial devices, digger derricks, hydraulic lifting equipment.
  • Able to read schematics and use diagnostic tools.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to job sites to inspect, diagnose, and repair equipment.
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on bucket trucks, digger derricks, and support vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, electrical, and emissions systems.
  • Maintain service logs, repair docs, and parts usage records.
  • Coordinate with mechanic lead to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure OSHA/DOT safety compliance.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled and self-driven Fleet Mechanic to perform field-based diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on utility fleet equipment and vehicles. This includes aerial devices (bucket trucks), digger derricks, and other specialized equipment used in electrical line work. The ideal candidate has experience with hydraulic and electrical systems, understands DOT compliance requirements, and is capable of working independently on active utility job sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to job sites to inspect, diagnose, and repair equipment.
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on:
    • Bucket trucks (aerial lifts)
    • Digger derricks
    • Utility pickups, vans, and trailers
    • Excavators
    • Skid steers
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues related to diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and emissions systems.
  • Conduct ANSI and DOT inspections on aerial and lift equipment.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, repair documentation, and parts usage records.
  • Communicate with the mechanic lead to schedule and complete repairs to minimize operational downtime.
  • Ensure vehicles meet OSHA, DOT, and company safety requirements.
  • Maintain an organized and fully equipped mobile service truck.
  • Uphold strong safety standards and follow company procedures on all job sites.

Based on operational demands, travel may be required up to 75% of the time; otherwise, work will be based out of the yard.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in diesel or heavy vehicle repair is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience as a mechanic for utility, construction, or fleet vehicles.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class A preferred or willing to obtain a Class A)
  • Clean driving record
  • Experience working on aerial devices, digger derricks, and hydraulic lifting equipment is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in reading schematics, using diagnostic tools, and performing computer-based diagnostics.
  • Familiar with ANSI A92.2 and DOT vehicle inspection standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in the field.
  • Physically able to lift heavy parts, climb on equipment, and work in varied weather conditions.

Work Conditions:

  • Position involves a mix of fieldwork and onsite yard-based duties, including travel to substations, power line construction sites, and service yards depending on operational demands.
  • Outdoor work in active utility environments, including high-voltage areas and rugged terrain.
  • On-call availability for emergency repairs may be required.
  • Exposure to loud noise, dust, grease, and all-weather conditions.
Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Range: $27.00-$51.00 ( Depending on experience)
