Job summary

GFL Environmental is seeking a Mechanic in the High Point, NC area to keep our fleet rolling. You will diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks and other vehicles, using diagnostic software and manuals, while planning repairs and maintaining parts inventories.

A strong emphasis on safety and teamwork is essential as you support our fleet operations. You will bring at least 1 year of diesel mechanic experience, own your tool set, and demonstrate the ability to learn new systems quickly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma or trade certification strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technician.
• Comfortable using computer diagnostic software, digital work orders, and learning new systems.
• Must possess, provide, and maintain your own personal tool set for heavy/hydraulic equipment maintenance.
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and work in dynamic shop environments.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks, CNG, gas, and electrically operated vehicles and rolling stock.
• Use diagnostic software, manuals, and tools to identify and fix issues.
• Plan and schedule repairs in the M5 planner, procure parts, and assist with work orders.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and adhere to safety regulations.
• Collaborate with teammates and participate in technical seminars to stay current.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

• Diagnose & Repair: Troubleshoot and repair operational difficulties on heavy-duty diesel trucks, CNG, gas, and electrically operated vehicles and rolling stock.
• Master the Tech: Utilize diagnostic software, repair manuals, and top-tier hand and power tools to get to the root of mechanical issues.
• Keep Things Scheduled: Plan and schedule repairs in the M5 planner, procure necessary parts, and assist with mechanical write-ups and work orders.
• Work Safe, Work Smart: Maintain a clean, organized work area and strictly adhere to federal, state/provincial, and company safety regulations.
• Support the Team: Collaborate with team members, assist in training new mechanics, and participate in technical seminars to stay ahead of industry tech.

What We’re Looking For (Requirements & Qualifications)
